A4 TDI PD 130 BHP 2001-IS THIS NORMAL?

I was told by an independent audi/vw man that when engine oil cap is taken of a running pd diesel engine,smoke puffing out is normal,all pd engines do it!

He showed me a 53 plate doing the same,he said this is normal for a pd engine. On an older (non-pd) engine its a bad sign,but not on a pd.

Just wanted to know how true this was,maybe he's right 37 years in audi!

Well I was changing the oil on mine at the weekend and although the engine was not running, I had removed the top within 20 seconds. A slight vapour was coming out. I will check to see if it does smoke when idling. I would have thought that any smoke/vapour would be blow-by from the rings!! A little will be normal.

yeah... my dads 1.9 TDI Q, does it.... he rings my up saying... whats going on...
