Okies, theres been a bit of misinformation bandied around on here my myself and others regarding the k03 turbos and what they're fitted to, and i've just come across a really good thread over on the 'zine so i thaught i'd summarise the data here.

I'm going to list each turbo model, what its fitted to, and its compressor/turbine specs along with maximum power (although these figures are probably in silly nonsense US wheel power, or perhaps borg-warners recommended power output, its still useful for comparison)

K03-005 - Standard fit on ALL cable throttle B5 1.8T's INCLUDING the 180hp AJL engine.
K03-029 - Standard fit on Drive-by-wire B5's and most B6 1.8T's bar the "190" model. Similar in specifications to the normal K03 fitted to Golf/A3's
K03-073 - Standard fit on B6 190 model. Similar in specifications to the K03s fitted to Golf/A3's
K04-015 - Not standard fit, Borg Warner turbo designed to be a direct replacement upgrade for the longitudinal 1.8T.
K04-020 - Standard fit on the TT/S3
FrankenTurbo F4h-l - hybrid, see 'zine thread.

K03-005
Compressor Size: 36/50mm
Turbine Size: 36/45mm
Approx Power Rating: 150HP

K03-029
Compressor Size: 36/50mm
Turbine Size: 40/45mm
Approx Power Rating: 160HP

K03-073
Compressor Size: 38/51mm
Turbine Size: 40/45mm
Approx Power Rating: 190HP

K04-015
Compressor Size: 38/51mm
Turbine Size: 42/46mm
Approx Power Rating: 210HP

K04-020
Compressor Size: 42/56mm
Turbine Size: 42/50mm
Approx Power Rating: 260HP

Franken F4h-l
Compressor Size: 40/51mm
Turbine Size: 42/50mm
Approx Power Rating: 240hp


So there we have it. Shows us the reasonably readily available k03-073 turbo is a nice upgrade without going to the expense of a new k04-015 too.

Aye, just shows that the standard crappy 005 turbo we get is a puny little thing!

Also shows why the A3/Golf crowd always seem to get more power, even on standard K03 cars.
 
Good info. so going by this its hardly worth trying to find a k04 as its barely better than the k03-73? Cant be much hp to be had between them.

Just one question, are all the turbos listed interchangeable?

Could I swap a K04-015 or K04-020 for my puny K03-005? (Obviously a bit of software tweaking and FMIC would be required)

ye Franken is $1k, but that comes with a manifold and things, so works out better value as i'm sure the 015 is around 700quid new.
