Hi all. Thought I'd ask for some advice before I comletey empty my wallet! Yesterday I noticed my clutch started slipping in 4-6 gear under load from a steady speed. 1-3 is completely fine. Foot to the floor and it pulls fine. If I've got a decent pace and put my foot down I 4-6 it doesn't slip. Checked a few local specialist who have all said just to replace clutch and fly wheel. (Not sure why fly wheel) and they are all upto or over £1000. Has anyone had or heard of similar and have a known fault or cure?? Cheers, jay

How many miles has the car done and is it mapped?
If the clutch is slipping then there really is no fix other than to rteplace it or temporarily drive around it.
If you are replacing the clutch then it makes sense to replace the DMF as well, The time and labour cost involved in replacing the clutch makes it sensible to replace the DMF as well.
Also if the clutch has been slipping a lot the surface on the flywheel overheats and will be a nice blue colour and won't be any good when you fit a new clutch.

It's done 74k now. Yes it's mapped also. Had a quote of 650 all in so think ill just get it done. Fair price compared to what ive had. Fingers crossed.

If it's a main dealer I am not surprised. The OE clutch parts are liable to be LUK or Sachs and are easily available at much cheaper prices for the same parts from a motor factors. They won't come in a box with an Audi label on and they may not have an Audi logo on the parts but they are the same parts.

Hi, i'm having similar problems with my car, but it's a 2012 with 47k miles on the clock.
I've had a couple of quotes for replacing clutch & flywheel, but garages are quoting around £2k, with the dealer quoting £2.5k
Clutch only @ over £1k

Do these prices seem right for my car, given some of the pirces you guys have listed above @ sub £1k.

thanks.

It would seem that the garages are possibly jacking the prices up as it is such a new car. 47K miles on a clutch is nothing what has the car been doing ?? .

No idea, just got the car a few months ago, most of those 47k were from the previous owner. It was a "one owner" owned by Audi - so who knows!
My problem is that if I request the work under warranty, and they turn round and say it has been driver error etc, then I'll have to foot the bill from the dealer which will be more expensive than just getting the job done from another garage.

Found a local garage that will do the job, clutch + dmf flywheel for £850 all in. So it's booked in for next week.

Thats a more reasonable price, It's going to be the same clutch as would be fitted at Audi as far as I am aware only LUK make the clutches for these.

Karl.

Did you get this done yet?
Did you see old clutch, was it worn?
I'm curious because I had similar last week (slip in 4th and 5th once in same journey) but now can't replicate fault. Even wheelspins in 2nd if I want, doesn't slip with handbrake on or FTTF uphill in any gear.
I still driving as normal but pricing up replacements just in case.

I got the clutch &flywheel done, and it's now much better - no slipping! The garage held onto the old clutch so I could have a look but I didn't get a chance yet.
The garage said it took them a lot longer than expected but stuck to the quoted price.

However, I do have another problem now.. since picking up the car the start/stop system no longer works. It comes up with an error on the display saying something like "start stop system: system fault. function is disabled". This happens every time i start the car, the message goes away after about 3 seconds, but the start/stop no longer works. when i press the button to disable the start/stop, then un-press it, the message appears again for a few seconds.

Could the garage have disturbed a sensor? I know the start/stop is somehow linked to the clutch to re-start the car.
