Hi everyone, I am about to undertake a cambelt change on my car. In the process I will be changing the alternator v belt and pulleys also. Apart from all belts and pulleys as well as the water pump is there anything I should be taking this opportunity to change now? Aside from this I will be changing the o-rings on the injectirs, so anything in there also.... Thanks for the advice in advance

Are you doing it yourself?

Worth having a look at this full walkthrough by Audi specialist. His channel is quite good for B7 platform

Total Technik videos are really good, there is a other call 1A Auto in the US, they have a B7 they use on how to`s.
but I don't think they do oil burner engines.

I used the Total Technik video to find out how to do the rear seat swap. Good tutorials, but it was one of their pay ones.
I would have been stuck without their help though.

I didn't no they did pay videos, how does that work, just curious.
There's more advanced one he charges for. Rear seats/removing headliner etc I think.

Don't think the Rear seats needed a paid guide. Pain in the ***, but easy enough.

The timing belt one should be paid imo.

It's actually this video that gave me the confidence to tackle the job. Doesn't seem all that difficult really. Is there some pretty important and prone to failure hex bolt or something that I should consider replacing? Bad description I know but I can only vaguely remember reading something on it.

There are Mechanics that will not do a second timing belts on these engines as there are some threads for bolting on the pulleys I believe that can give issues.

I'm sure theres others on here that will know better. Just a faint memory of the reason why (it could be something else). But one mechanic refused to quote me at all. a VAG specialist too.

So I completely the cam belt, auxiliary belt, water pump and and all tensioners and pulley change the other day. I'm not a mechanic but I'm pretty handy and it took me just a touch over a day from start to finish. Only problem I faced was the cam belt tensioner pulley stud had stripped the thread in the block and I had to get creative with a tap and die set. Other than that the whole process is fairly simple. Glad I did it myself rather than fork out a ridiculous amount.

I got that problem!!! Wasn't a massive issue though, I just tapped out the block a size larger and used a metal lathe to machine the other end. Set me back a few hours running around finding and machining parts but certainly no deal breaker
