A4 Avant to A6 Avant - real world driving differences?

I'm trying to make my mind up whether to change from my B7 A4 Avant 2.0tdi up to an A6 Avant 3.0 tdi Quattro.

It would mean selling my A4 first and it's all a bit fruitless if there's not going to be a great deal of difference.

On trips longer than an hour, the A4 with dog, wife and 6ft son in the back, feels a bit claustrophobic and
the legroom isn't as good for rear passengers as I had hoped when I bought it.

I haven't sat in an A6 yet as there are none around for sale near me, but ask if there's much difference in rear legroom and general comfort inside the cabin compared to the A4?

Also, I use the A4 for supermarket trips and general town and b-road driving and wonder if the A6 would feel too big to drive and park for everyday use? (I can drive properly but still regularly have a few near misses with SUV's on B-roads!)

    Many thanks for any replies.

I think you need to go and drive one for yourself. My wife did not like the A6 said it was too big. I prefer bigger cars like the A6/A8. As far as parking goes I find places where people cannot open their doors into my car, even if that mean a bit of a walk.

I haven't driven a C6, so not sure how much bigger they are. But I used to have a C5 A6 2.5tdi q sport. And compared to my B7 A4 they are hardly any bigger.
The extra length comes from a foot longer boot. Rear leg room was about the same, front leg room hardly feels any different. The gap between the seats seems slightly wider, but not much. The bonnet is longer, but is only filled with the larger engines.
I much prefer the more compact A4 in looks and driveability. The A6s can feel like a big barge, and just look too big.

Most of the 3.0 cars are auto, the manuals are a very rare find if you wanted one.

I find the rear leg room fine in mine, I am 6ft and can find comfortably behind my own drivers seat. I find it very comfortable to drive and sit in for long journeys, but I have never driven an A4 so I can't compare it to that.

Parking is a bit more difficult, it is a big car and I often park a bit out of the way to avoid dings and not being able to get back in the car. It is ~20cm wider than a B7. Driving is a bit of a let down, the dynamics are soft, rather barge like, unless you get the sline then it's the same with a stiffer ride.

The best thing to do would be to just look at one, park it next to yours and test drive it, thats the best way to get a feel for the size of the car.

I have bought one now and with the lighter steering and sensors, find it a peach to drive and park.

I bought A6 Avant Le Mans edition the other week. What a great drive with all the room in the back.

Does yours have the electric steering? Wonderful to drive - easier than my A4 Avant.

I would say no. As it’s not hard to turn but can tell it’s a V6 under the bonnet lol. Don’t suppose you have a iPhone and connected it to the MMI at all? Lol

I have an iphone 6s connected to my 2g hi MMI, had to update the MMI to the latest revision, 4470 iirc, before it would connect via BT mind.

The final 2G software version is 55.7.0 that fixed a few issues with connectivity and it has a big update for the BT firmware. There are loads of threads about updating the MMI software on 2G system. If fairly straight forward but as with all updates they can fail and cause problems. Usually the BT update fails and you have to retry the update, and the BT module takes about 50 minutes so have a battery charger connected to the charging points in the engine bay.
