A4 2016 3.0TDI 160kw Cold Engine strange noise

Dear AUDI owners, I just bought used 68k km AUDI A4 AVANT 3.0 TDI Quattro S-tronic 160kw and my engine has strange noise when cold start... it lasts for 30 min until when engine is more warm... Could you please help what it could be? The sound is coming from back side of engine.

Sounds like a loose chain or poor tensioner. Quite common on the 2004-2008 3.0 tdi engines and 2012-2015 3.0 tdi engines. I’ve heard is can affect the Audi A4 3.0 tdi 2016+. It usually only presents as a rattle on startup as the oil pressure is building up. If your car is making that sort of noise for 30 minutes as you say it needs looking at.

Many many thanks... yes the noise stays also when engine is warm.... its just a bit less noisy... but it is still there....

A4 B9 160KW Quattro owner here. I am pretty sure that rattle is made by the camshafts. It's a common problem at these engines (2015-2018). I just changed them on my car under warranty.
