I have an issue with the fuel consumption & running on my A4 S Line avant 2.0 TDI 140. It seems to only be able to return 34mpg. I am not heavy footed I would say 60% of my driving is town/city driving. The rest is short trips up the motorway/dual carriageway.

I have previously owned a 2.0 TDI A3 and BMW 320d and both these cars were capable of mid 40 mpgs.

I have also noticed that on occasions the A4 is lumpy or hesitant under light throttle around 2000 rpm. Is this a MAF issue?

I have recently had the fuel filter changed and fuel cleaner run through the system. But it hasn’t solved the issue.

Any advice on how to improve the fuel consumption and this hesitation under light throttle would be much appreciated.

When was it last serviced mate? My A3 140 was the same, until it was serviced, now its like a new car! Boosts better, and returns 40+ even after a spirited drive with the 'paddles'!
Looking forward to driving later, A/B roads all the way

It's got 6k until it's next service showing on the dispaly, perhaps I should think about booking it in early.

Worth a go, just hope it works for you! I went from an S4 to A3TDi, so thought it was just slow, but it does put you back in your seat! I first got a hint after taking their B8 A4TDi, and that was ballistic compared to mine, until after the service.
Good luck matey!

I get on avg 500miles from a tank if that helps in anyway. I drive 'spiritedly' most of the time and my journeys are not normally any more than 20 miles or so. Rare occasions when I do go far, I get 550 tops.

Mines a 2.0 140tdi but mapped to 190.

Not sure if any of this helps at all!

EDIT: According to an MPG calculator this gives me 32MPG. Nicccce!

Thanks for the input. I had my A3 2.0 TDI remapped, and it was definitely better on fuel than the stock tune. I think I could get 500 miles if I run the tank to near empty and drove carefully.

This cars fuel consumption just seems way off my other 2.0 tdi cars? It's more in line with my 330cd M sport I just had, and performance is obviously nowhere hear the same. Starting to wish I didn't change now.

Is the MAF easy to replace? EGR is this something that should be looked at? Anything else to try?

i had a similar problem with my 1.9Tdi, i was doing long motorway runs and only getting 500 miles to a 60 litre tank which works out at 40mpg where i would have thought i'd get a least 45, and i'm not that heavy footed and use the cruise control mostly.

Had a minor service (oil and oil filter change) and thats given me an extra 50 miles to a tank plus the engine sounds quieter, also ran an injector cleaner treatment through it and it seems ok as well as a tank of ultimate diesel (expensive but worth it for the extra umph!)

If you can i'd suggest the major service where they do the fuel filter as well, i think mine needs one as according to the service book its never had one - i use a audi specialist in stockport who'll do a major service (everything you can think of) for £240 which i thought was pretty good

sorry missed out this bit, had a remap to 160bhp (from the standard 115) and economy is a tiny bit better up to about 570 miles off a 60 litre tank, performance is hugely better though!

economy would be a lot better if i stopped putting my foot down and drove normally..........
