Hi guys. I have owned my Avant for just over a week now and I cannot believe how terrible it's mpg is!! I assumed that an Audi 2.0 diesel would be returning decent mpg so failed to look into it too much. Currently I'm getting 28mpg, my old focus used to return 50's so it's a bit of a shock!!
Are these figures about right it's just been fully serviced and has a new turbo so mechanically it's as good as it can be right now.

Your Focus is 1000kg small car but your Audi avant is nearly 1700+kg !
Anyway that Mpg is too low -I'm driving 170 bhp quattro with 19 alloys and I'm doing like 40mpg !

How many miles has it done ? why has it had a new turbo ? . As stated above you can't really compare a focus to an A4, If you carried four passengers around in the focus all the time you might be close to the extra weight the A4 has.
Is your car a quattro or FWD. I suspect there are other issues with your car that may have contributed to the turbo failure. Partially blocked DPF's can cause turbo issues and poor economy.

With my quattro on 19" normaly is like 500 miles for full tank !
If i'm on the motorway i can manage 560-600 but depend on speed and weight of luggage!

The turbo was changed as part of a problem solving mission from the mechanic that was trying to fix it's lack of power above 3000rpm. The DPF was removed and soaked in cleaner, it had new vacume bits and turbo and it turned out to be a blocked fuel filter!! £1200 to find out its the ****** filter lol.
My focus was an estate but I see your point lol. So I should be seeing more than I'm getting? It's done 102'000 miles and goes like a rocket now

As the above have already stated....I can get 50-60+mpg if I drive like an old codger or as little as 15-20mpg if I give it a good seeing too.

But on average with a bit of both I average around the 40mpg mark.

Where was the turbo from that you fitted? . If it was a brand new manufacture item it won't be an issue. I have heard stories of recon items that have not been set up correctly when they have been remanufactured. They need to be set up properly on a flow bench to get the VNT set up properly.

It was an exchange turbo that cost £600 and I believe it was from Turbo Technics in Northants. Got me worried now

Turbo Technics are a good outfit I wouldn't have thought you would have an issue with them. There are plenty of Ebay sellers that aren't as good though.
TBH which garage were you using to fault the car in the first place ? . One of the first things I would have done was look at the fuel system and I would probably have suggested changing the fuel filter. Do the cheap easy things first.
Are the VAG specialists ? . Better to get somebody who knows what they are doing. If it goes like a rocket now is it mapped ? .
If so you have no idea what the map is and who mapped it. The DPF Will soak up all the soot and you will probably be getting regular regens which doesn't help economy.

Yes the car has been remapped by myself using Bluefin but I was lead to belive this would help economy when driving it economically and I'm only getting 28mpg when I take it seriously easy. Could it be a coolant temp sensor issue?
The guy was a local independent and specialised in caterhams lol

Because never know what you put in your tank - £14 fuel filter MUST be changed every time you change your oil filter and Air as well !
I'm changing them by myself so FULL service cost Me like £100 ;) and i prefer that ruther £1200 and to find fuel filter

i mostly drive in town and regularly see just 28 too 33 mpg over a tank (350 miles). is does get me down too say the least. i think the egr needs a good clean too if i do get it cleaned or get a new one i will be sure too let you no of the difference.

Yep me too

Dpf delete and a remap makes the mpg miles beater I can get 50 on a run and I have Quattro

Hi James I've heard a lot of things about audi's not running properly when dpf has been removed . I got a 170bhp avant and been toying with the idea for a while have you had any issues since removing yours

Regards Lew

@Lew67 I can say it's the best thing I've done power wise. At first just had it mapped with the EGR delete.....but I've now got a pipe on in place of the DPF with it deleted on my 170 and it's like it's just been mapped again.

I've only had it on 24 hours'ish but it drives so nicely now also. I've also scanned with VCDS and no faults on mine.

Thanks for the info much appreciated

My dpf clogged up within a month and it was so much more responsive now it's remapped I'd like to get a custom exhaust too the stock one is abit scrawny but it's 100x better than before and doesn't jerk or judder or have trouble starting what so ever so much more drivable

The exhaust note didn't really change but it spools louder with my s2000 filter get a nice flutter and whistle

I dropped my lad off at his friends earlier and I wanted to know what it sounded like as you can hear a whoosh noise is the only way I can explain it from inside the cabin. It's not coming from the K&N but out of the back end.....he said he can't really explain it either but it sounds really nice and you can hear the turbo out of the exhaust similar to a jet engine lol.

@James.c I have to say the car does actually start a lot quicker than before......it's hard to explain it but as soon as the engine starts to turn it's running compared to a few revolutions before (If that makes any sense?)
