A4 1.9 TDi 2nd gear crunch

I have an A4 1.9 tdi 110 SE, the b5 chassis, and when i change up to 2nd gear and down into 2nd gear for that matter, it always crunches no matter what, it doesnt do it on any other gear but 2nd, is this a common problem and could anyone tell me what it is?

Syncro mech ,, I had this on my old b5 change gearbox oil if it comes out copper colour then u have a problem ,, some have cured this by just changing the gearbox oil
