Hello fellow A3 drivers,

Just sold my 318i and bought myself a beautiful TDi 140 Sport, its an 8P1 and its done 139,000 miles but it was a one owner car with full audi history and the price was right so i had to go for it. Anyway my question is would it be wise to get an fr+r st3 remap considering my car recently went into limp mode on the way back from Birmingham, i was doing about 80 and the turbo felt like it cut out, so i pulled over and restarted the car and it was fine. It hasnt happened since but im concerned about wether the turbo will simply go pop after a remap?

Get it scanned with VCDS first mate. Hard to guess why it went into limp mode, but might have been due to turbo overboosting. Were you flooring it when the car lost power?

Personally at that mileage any remap is just going to highlight the cracks /problems. Unless you are happy to replace turbos etc don't do it. Just my 2p :)

+1

limp mode can be overboost or underboost - overboost usually sticky veins on the turbo and underboost usualy a boost leak somewhere

at that mileage the turbo may go any time anyway - how much audi warranty do you have left and does it cover the turbo? if so, its probably worth waiting till the end of the warranty period, or use one of the switchable maps to stress the turbo whilst you still have a warranty!

i was doing about 80 and a slight incline was coming up so i put my foot on the accelerator but there was no power there. Can i do the vcds scan with one of those cheap ebay leads?

unfortunately no warranty mate... It's a 2004 car.

PM Nigel and get yourself a proper lead

Don't need to buy the cable, just get in touch with someone who's got it in your area. Here's the link to the thread.
MikeA3 seems to be the nearest to you.

Must admit though, VCDS comes in handy.

I think I might just pop the car down to the local Audi specialist who also happens to be a good mate of my dads. Cars running a bit funny at idle too its almost as though it misses a beat every 20 seconds. Any idea what that could be?
