A3 sportback 2005 140 bkd survivor mods

Hi, had the A3 for nearly 10 years. Never missed a beat, has 163k on tje clock. Used to be my wifes daily but overboost/limp was a daily issue so got her a golf gti. I have an S4 so held onto the A3 as was worth nothing and i had a soft spot for it and the 50mpg. I got fed up with turning the engine on and off on journeys after a year. It was down on power, smokey and the siren noise from the turbo was getting tedious. Cue operation "KILL OR CURE". I decided to get a load of cheap bits off ebay and see how bad they were.

Bought a cheap hybrid turbo. Decat down pipe and a random genuine audi cat back exhaust that had no mid boxes.

As you can see turbo was leaking oil and generally very tired.

Had the exhaust and turbo fitted with a full egr delete and cooler removal.

Downpipe needed modding. It was £70

off eBay. Cat back was £50 off ebay.

Anyway had it mapped today with the egr coded out. Very happy with parts and performance so far. I should just add all consumable serviceable items were replaced along with genuine turbo oil feed pipe, gaskets, bolts etc from Audi.

Thi is a very nice thread to see. I had the exact same engine a while back and I am still in love with it. Keep us updated if you do any other changes!
