A3 S3 Colours AGAIN!.....(yawn).....i was bored OK!

All,

Being friday and without anything else to keep my brain going...here's what attempts to be a definitive list of A3 S3 paint codes and sales code by year. I've seen jojo's list but believe it contains codes for other model audis.

in total i believe there were 37 "standard" colours for A3/S3s over the models lifetime....of which only 4 were S3 only (Nogaro/Avus Silver/Misano Red/Goodwood Green)...even Imola Yellow seems to have been available on the pre MY99 A3s. The trouble with paint codes is the way in which they are referred to in sales docs does sometimes differ from tech docs.

eg, I'm convinced that at least early UK S3 sales docs did refer to the colour Azure blue - pearl effect, when in fact the proper name is Santorin blue in tech docs (paint code terms). Azure blue does exist on other audis but with a different paint code!

Some colours sales wise also have multiple names...eg, mocha brown (UK term) has also been referred to as Samba Brown etc. Other colours do exist as special orders eg, papaya orange, berry red...etc but to the best of my research were not standard on any A3 in UK. Merlin Purple was also to the best of my research only ever standard on A3...not S3...so any S3s in this must have been special order jobs.

Some good research there Evotista!

I did a search on the audi site a week or so ago, and managed to find another S3 in Merlin purple, so there are more out there, kinda nice to know its a little rare though!
 
Looks like the codes i put down as beginning with LL are wrong

eg Denim Blue should be LZ5W not LLZ5 as i put it

Take the first L off those codes and then they need a 4th character. We need paint codes from real data stickers for these colours then please gentlemen....


Nogaro Blue (S3 only)
Crystal Blue
Merlin Purple
Pine Green

Also Maya Yellow was officially Ochre - Metallic in UK

Pearlescent paint is like a pearl in that ir slightly changes colour. ie my car is cactus green pearl, and it is a green with a gold coloured metalic flake in it. Civic Type-Rs in black are a pearl paint as you look closely in a cars headlight you will see that the flake in the paint os blue.
 
I was always under the ASSumption that Pearl Effect had flakes mixed into the paint sprayed over as normal (White I think) base coat, whereas the Metallic paint was simply sprayed over a "Metallic" (Silver??) base coat /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Or am I an idiot /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Reading the list implies to me that from Manufacturing Year 98 (ie Sep 1997) that Santorin Blue was introduced to replace Europa Blue, and was available until Aug 2000.

The paint code for santorin is LZ5K......even if UK people/sales docs have referred to this as Azure on an A3, officially its Santorin Blue (at least that's what i can determine)

i've got an A3 1.8 TS on a 98 S reg and its Merlin Purple.....!..
thats not listed above for a 98 model...???

No it's not Brilliant yellow.

My paint code is F2F2. Do a search and see what you come up with for that.

Well I've had a look and if I have got it right it is LZ3W.

Denim Blue = LZ5W = sales code = 7C
Merlin Purple = LZ3W = sales code = 4B

We still need Nogaro Blue, Crystal Blue, and Brilliant Blue paint codes gents
 
Just been out and checked mine I didn't think that other code sounded right.

Mine is LY1B have a look for that if you can and see what you come back with.

Right I see. Where did you find that out? As Audi have told me crap by the sounds of it.

I knew about LY1B....your cars were still a " lifestyle" colour/audi exclusive colour/special order

however you refer to it, neither of your cars was ever offered as a standard colour. My research is trying to establish which colours were standard offerings, when that took place and what their codes were.

the list of non standard ie, exclusive colours at the mo would be

Brilliant Yellow
Papaya Orange
Ferrari Rosso Red

Misano Red...i'm not sure about...i think it was listed in price lists but at a significant premium ie £1000..so it was as good as an exclusive colour...but not quite!

Yes you were correct although you answered to the wrong paint code before, and I was correct that it was a "Life Style" colour, but Audi told me that they did haven't the codes to mix it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif

Mark, it seems that F2F2 and LY1B is Brilliant Yellow, I already knew that the code LY1B, but you requested the colour for F2F2 and the result came up the same. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/noidea.gif

I don't understand why the Nogaro Blue is wrong... it isn't LLZ5 , but it seems LZ5M the right one.
