Can anyone advise me as to the likelihood of a 2009 Audi A3 S-Line 2.0 TDi Black Edition having the defective hex balancer shaft fitted & when did Audi revise it to the longer, more reliable shaft? I've looked all over the web but can't find a definitive answer & i know it's a major issue if it goes. Not sure if it'd be cheaper to just replace it as i see Audi only sell/replace it with the longer, more reliable shaft which says to me they know there's a major issue but fail to admit liability!!. Thanks for any help & advice.

AFAIK there are no such problems wit the engines used in A3s, MK5s, Octavia, Leons.
The problems are with the engines used on the higher class cars: Passat, A4, Superb...
