l was wondering/considering today's...incident involving a certain thread...which has obviously offended some...??
Can we have a 8V "BANTER THREAD"....No point in moving any thread anywhere elsewhere in the forum,We DON'T WANT to go elsewhere....We are happy with our own wee circle,and ANY member is free to participate in.....Just like a sticky thread then no one can be offended....or call us Spammers....

A poll if needed...?

We could have out own thread rules ...starter for 10...​

1. No detailed technical discussion although vague reference to tech things about cars woukd be considered appropriate

To be totally honest the banter/off topic posts are what has drawn me more into ASN this past month.Apart from the mickey taken I like to think I have contributed a little seriousness to replies of fellow members posts..As have other members I'm sure...:friends:(I'm off for a sulk now:bye:)

Speaking as a non-8V-owning forum moderator, I take the view that provided the forum rules are observed at all times, you guys can have your banter conversations where you want them. But remember this is a community, not the personal fiefdom of a small group. So others may take a different view, and if they find stuff in a model-specific forum that they aren't comfortable with, they have the right to report it. And we the moderator team have an obligation to look at the report and decide if it needs to be acted on.

And of course, this is just my view; other moderators may think otherwise.

Also, I've changed the thread title. Whatever else this thread is, it's not official.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and I fully agree with your sentiments and appreciate you have a duty to act on reported content

However, as I have stated in several threads today, to which no moderator has provided a response to , is what would be useful is the provision of a reason for deletion (censorship) of content. (E.g blasphemy, pornography, racism etc etc etc.) as "deletion due to inappropriate content" is a little vague to be honest.

Can this request be tabled as a formal request to change forum rules. That is categorisation of deleted content and associated notification to the OP, with a right to appeal.

To keep on topic of Banter.....rule number 5 ...do not use the word "official".

Did indeed fail to see that chatter - read them, didn't miss anything. My mind is a clever instrument.

I talked to the unicorn about his total disregard of repeated posts of the same links - he said sorry but stuck his single horn up in salute.

Much appreciated, thanks, despite all the banter and joking around there is a serious sub text here around censorship and being open and transparent for both members and moderators.

We are tolerant. We do not mind the banter in a thread as long as it doesn't go to far off topic. We all have to remember we are a reference site and we have an incredible amount of knowledge and willing members that help others. We have members of all ages and the forum is read by some younger members, so we must monitor the forum for their benefit. Please remember that the moderation and admin team are just members the same as you all, we just have a few extra tools, that help the smooth running of the forum.
If you wish to have threads that are purely just Banter, please use the thread in General Chat that is called ASN PUB.

First off I totally appreciate that moderating must be an incredibly tough job, I know I wouldn't do it if you paid me and I also know you guys don't get paid! You do have a duty to look after all members and I appreciate that no one member takes priority over any other.

Having said that I, like Dave, am at a total loss to understand who I have offended and why? I accept my posts will not appeal to everyone but they are to specific members who are like-minded. I have not, as far as I know, abused anyone or posted anything that contravenes the forum rules. The gif I had removed (which frankly I couldn't care less about) was from a film that is readily shown in the daytime presumably because it is deemed by TV execs to be suitable for all ages. Surely a pair of half naked breasts is not deemed offensive?

No-one is forced to read what I post, there is a block button as has been said numerous times before. I find a lot of threads on ASN have posts which are negative, boring and often repetitive..............have I ever complained to the mods, or tried to dictate what others post?

It is a very tolerant forum I completely agree.............so what's changed?
