I went out today on my 2014 A3 tdi sline (car is new to me) when i tried to use the air con it just doesn’t work the light in the bottom doesn’t stay on, could this be just regas or the more expensive repair? I contacted the dealer who sold the car(not audi dealer) all they say it’s nothing to do with them as they gave me a 3 month warranty through another company.
What this fault could be?

I would check the manual - I think I remember on here reading something about settings/auto/etc. Can't remember. Mine works fine anyway - never had any problems.
If you have a 3 month warranty I would get it looked at ASAP, just in case it's a problem. I suppose the warranty may not cover things like Aircon though.

Lots of threads on here about stone damaged condensers .
Might be good to check this first

I have read a bit about this condenser fault , it looks like it will be an expensive repair, does anyone know a good garage in Ilford or surrounding areas to carry this repair as i can see the dealer charging loads of money.

There’s absolutely nothing good in Ilford mate, absolute toilet.

Try VWaudiTec in Chelmsford, all ex Audi trained mechanics (they call them technicians these days) and I’ve used them over the years so very happy to recommend them.

Thanks, I’m new in the area so i guess I won’t use any garage in or around here! Will give a call to Vwauditec on Tuesday

You might get a better deal at a local aircon specialist. But you said you had 3 months warranty - is the aircon covered?

To be honest I’m not sure if the warranty covers this issue, i have to call them-on Tuesday and find out

Parts are reasonably priced at TPS , it's the main dealer labour that whacks the cost up.

I can see from the posts the repair goes up to £800 or more ! I’ve seen the condenser for £100 , i guess it’s all labour and regas the system that takes it to nearly £800

Hi Ormesome , thank you for your post how much you had to pay for this job? Did you had it done at dealer?
I searched for months before finding one a3 with the right specs i wanted and after a week this happens.

Regards
Sergio

worked out at around £550-600. im in Switzerland so different rates. didn't go via Audi. too expensive!

I will definitely go to an independent garage, not Audi.
I will have to ring a few garages to get some prices

I had this exact same problem in my car. I took it to get it re-gassed and it was fixed, it was simply because the refridgerant was low in the system (phew!).

However, I have heard that the compressor fault in the 8V is common.

I tried the regas route but unfortunately they were unable to regas as they detected a leak somewhere in the system, next Tuesday it will go to vwauditech to find the fault and repair

Can you repair a damaged condenser ?

Car is at the audi independent specialist, total bill £409 , new condenser plus labour, meanwhile they found my auxiliary water pump braket broken, so that got replaced, as well brake disks are heavily corroded so that needs replacing i can see big bill coming my way.
They noticed heavily corroded rear springs, they will not replace them as i have a B12 Bilstein kit to fit the car, car is 4 years old is this normal?
