A3 8P climate control revisions -different external dimensions!?

Hi, as some of you may know, I am in the process of retrofitting heated leathers to my 03 SE Pd140.

I need the correct climate control unit with the heated seats buttons.
My existing one is 8P0 820 043 B 5PR

I bought 8P0 820 043 AB 5PR

It is from an 06, and looked identical to me (save for the heated seats buttons), however it is wider and therefore won't fit!

I have spotted a poor condition 8P0 820 043 E 5PR on the bay, will it fit?
What other units will fit?
Can I modify mine to add the buttons from the one I have as it is in very good nick?

It is wider as it came from a car with single din... just trim down the sides and it will fit in fine.

Will do, cheers! That's actually what my girlfriend suggested and I dismissed it...

We do it all the time when fitting a double din cage in since a replacement unit is costly and customers don't want to spend unessessary money. Trim off a couple of mm on each side or use your original unit as a template

Just done that, fits in nicely, cheers still trying decipher the wiring so I can get it going

It's pretty simple, that diagram I sent the link to should help you out. 2wites for temp sender (one on either side) 2 for actual temp and then the thumb wheel position... remeber 'passenger' and 'driver' doesn't apply to us as those instructions are for lhd

So how does that tie up with what I have on the seats?
Pin 1 on the seat connector is common to both seats (goes to a single pin for the climate control).
I then have wires from pins 2 and 3 for each seat, so 5 in total to go the the climate control.
What connectors/PIN numbers do they go to in the climate?

I have problem is, even zoomed in as far as I can, I can't make out the pin numbers :/

as they are too blurred.

I know from the supplied diagram from Kufatec that they must go to con D pins 2, 5, 6 and con C pins 9 and 10.

there is no coding for this on the A3, you just need to wire it all in properly for it to heat up the seats
