Afternoon

I have a audi a3 2016 8v 1.4 tfsi and the wastegate actuator arm is rattling and driving me crazy. Does anyone know how to fix and also any part numbers would be useful. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Rob

Mine has been rattling pretty much for over a year :D I can control it though. Mine rattles if I'm just touching the accelerator to keep a constant speed (or if the cruise control is doing it)

Can't say it drives me crazy unless yours is worse than mine. Do you have a video of yours rattling?

I looked into getting mine fixed but 1 or 2 garages insisted on a new turbo and they are expensive so I just put up with it.

There was apparently a clip for the previous rattling turbo but they changed the turbo and there wasn't a clip to fix this one as far as I found out back when mine was annoying me.

Mine sounds like it's doing the same as yours rattling when just touching the accelerator. I can put up with it but it's really annoying with windows down. I have been looking for a fix but nothing other than an expensive turbo. Cant believe there isnt another solution

I know it's more annoying than I want to admit. Anywhere I looked it was new turbo time. I did find this: https://www.oemvwshop.com/04e145220-spring-clip-for-turbocharger-note-p235823/#gallery

Unsure if this will help us tbh I have not looked to see if this will fit. it says 8v in this video: (in the comments)

I'm gonna buy one for a laugh and see if it's fitting.

Thanks for that I'm going to have a go myself with one of these clips. Much appreciated for your help

I am actually surprised that there are not more topics about this. Surely there are thousands of cars having this noise but the majority of thread concern the previous model of A3 pre facelift.

Erm, not that widespread - our A1 2018MY 150 PS doesn’t do it.

Main issues were on 1.4 122PS, and EA888 1.8 180 PS and S3 2.0 300PS - all PFL but engineered out in FL.

I’m not denying it happens but not systemic in FL.

On the engines that were affected yes, on ones that aren't, such as yours, it was not a necessary requirement to have the link modified. I had the 140ps version and that didn't rattle..

I did not. It was not in stock then I never went back to it. I am getting my cambelt done tomorrow so hopefully he can look at this too.

Got mine done for £250 + £50 diagnostic! ...the clip itself cost a little over £20! checked my dash cam and it took around an hour to fit.

Don't suppose it had a part number on there did it?

Sorry what? What exactly did you pay £300 for?

@JaegerStriker I did not buy it yet. I got my wheels refurbished and got MOT soon, not really bothered about the wastegate noise right now. The part number I have is 04E145220. An Audi branch can order it in and it's around £9. You can google that part number and see the clip.

Not sure. It was down on the invoice as "modified clip"

A clip was fitted to stop the rattle. It was done by an Audi/VW specialist garage. Extortionate.

Do you have a pic of the modified clip in situ and does it stop the rattle? :D

I've ordered the clip and I have no idea how it clips into place. Seems like theres no gap for it to sit in. Maybe I don't have wastegate issue and it's rattling for some other reason
