OK - a question for thee bunch.

The Z shaped hose under the inlet mani for the PCV system - yes the one that always splits - I have a question about.

My was shot, so rather than do it properly and pay £25 quid for a new one from Audi, I decided to make one.

That has lasted for about 5 months, but now gone bang, so I am looking at alternatives.

As far as I can see, there isn't a silicone one in existence. So I'm considering just blocking it off at the inlet mani end, and the putting a breather filter on the one way valve.

Can anyone see any long term problems with this? I can't. AFAIK the system only vents gas from the crankcase to the inlet manifold through the one way valve setup - meaning that it wouldn't suck air into the crank case anyway....

Thoughts?

isnt that part of the system that we've all removed on the catch can thread........ if it is dood then you will be able to isolate it off, persoanlly id be blanking it rather than putting a breather on it as its an enclosed system - could throw a fault (assuming we are talking about the same bit)

Also i have the PCV system off the A3 which has a few bits the same as the S3... which i could happily send on to ya..... (have a look on the kingfisher build thread as i took a picture of the stuff i removed)

This catch can stuff still confuses me and I have all the gear but no idea! Going to have a look at it soon though because I want it all in place before my service. I'm sure it will all become clear when I get my head in the engine bay.

Welly why did your new hose only last 5 months? Has it just got blocked or actually split again?

Because I made it out hose that was too big, joined with 90 degree bends for radiator piping, and to be fair, it was *****.

Still, it did the temporary fix I was after.

I will photograph it when I remove...

The master of botch jobs, I love it! Any cable ties involved?

Why dont you just take the plunge and do a catch can job mate like the rest of us.

LOL, maybe I should..... One day my friend, one day....

Riding the quad about like a nutter is taking up most of my spare time at the moment I must admit....

OK, so we're in agreement then - Cap both ends and allow the TIP breather to handle crankcase gas for the time being. Then eventually remove and fit catch can....

Sounds like a plan to me....

im thinking of reinstateing that split hose on mine with 10mm id silicon vac hose

cant see why that wont work

that's exactly what I did on my old Car welly. As a short term I blanked both ends off and the TIP did the venting, then I fitted a catch tank to stop my IC filling up with oil after a while!

Blanking off said pipe for me fixed a MASSIVE boost leak too and made it feel like a new car!

I think mine has been losing boost through my 'hose' for a little while I must admit, NOT the best fixer upper job I've ever done I must admit.... LOL.

Still, needs must. Much like the Kellogg's gasket.

I discovered a problem with that when I made my hose. The hose is of such a fantastic (not) design that one end (to the inlet mani) is approx 5mm ID and the end to the one way valve is substantially bigger - making fitting a non genuine replacement very difficult - well, more difficult than perhaps it could be...

sounds like an Audi to me :)

Welly im sure i have that bit mate....search for my thread (cos i cant whilst at work cos this damned revised site :( ) as it has pics of what i removed...or the catch can thread cos i posted a link on there - also a lot of other chaps removed all that ***** too

infact ihave it on photobuck-ay

ere ya go

After spending 10 mins scouring google, I have found an image of a silicone replacement.... Which I may consider buying if the price is right and I can find it....

Its the hose on the right....

And part number... 06A 103 221BK

well i bodged mine because i couldnt narrow down the right part number on ETKA. i snipped the split hose and screwed a big bolt in there haha

that works out at about 2 million pound per metre
