Hi guys, got a k03 want to replace it with a k03s. Is this a worthwhile conversion? Can I drive it without a remap? Do I need anything else or is it literally a straight switch? Have seen a guide on a Golf forum and it looks relatively straight forward with the right tools and a bit of time

Is around £250 about the right price for a half decent turbo?

a turbo is worth what ever your willing to pay for it. I was going to get a very low miles S from a member on her for around that price. Seems to be about right

So its just a staright swap nothing else need to be changed? Can someone who has never swapped a turbo befor(ME)manage to complete the job?
Is it possible to replace the KO3 with a K04?what additional parts are needed?

Mate, stick with the K03S swap if you are considering doing it yourself - although I would recommend collaring in a friend to help out. It can be done by a few people in an evening - that's how long it took to do mine when I did it.

K03S requires NOTHING. You remove the K03, and fit the K03S in it's place. Get a remap to give you the best from it, although it will spool up faster, and boost longer then the K03 anyway. Do yourself a favour and buy a good tool set before starting. I'd personally recommend Halford's Advanced sets. I have the massive set of those and all the tools have been hammered but still work - then when they break, you take them back for a free replacement.

K04 requires some serious kit to complete the job, not to mention being a s**t load harder to do. With a K04 swap you will need: a K04, a K04 Manifold, suitable downpipe to fit the K04, Silicone TIP, S3 injectors, Leon Cupra R Fuel pump, and a map as well.

Anyone got any Hints on where to pick up a bargain K03S? :D

I have access to a load of snap-on tools so that shouldnt be a problem. I suppose a ramp would be ideal too...

Ok so its just a case of finding a unit then! Are the k03s turbo's used on golfs and seats the same spec etc?

Yeah, they are all the same mate. Look for a K03-052, K03-053 or a K03-058. Those are the K03S models.

It might pay to look at this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/vw-golf-auq-a...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27b18410b7 which is damaged, and get it rebuilt. Generally costs around £250 to have it rebuilt, but you know you'd have a spot on blower to bolt on....

Saw that one yesterday. Will keep an eye on it. They seem to pop up on the golf and seat forums a fair bit so I will keep a look out.

There are some brand new ones from America on there but Im a bit wary

What sort of power figures will I be looking at after a stage 2 remap?

LOL, the ones from America are the same as the Chinese ones. Only should be bought to be used as a doorstop, shot putt, or anything other than being used a turbo.

Get a genuine unit. End of.

R Tech do a specialist map for the AGU with a K03S - expect 230 bhp, maybe a little more depending on mods. You will need an FMIC and 3" downpipe with sport/decat for that performance.

Thought that would be the case.

Ok better start hunting then

So going by welly's information the Turbo: K03-530397-00105 Would be OK?

Starting to wish i didn't join this forum, getting expensive!

^^ Sorry to bump the same thread with Newbish questions but could the above be confirmed?

Thanks gain fellas.

No mate, that won't fit. You will need a K03-052/053/058.

The only part number for the K03S I can find is 06A145713D.

If you just stick Wellys information into google loads of stuff comes up Mick

Well the conversion gets underway tomorrow, just picked up a K03S £130. Just need to source a FMIC - Will most likely buy a universal and Piping separately to keep as stealth as possible.

Assume it is ok to run the turbo for a short while without mapping - i guess it just wont be using its full potential but wont do any harm?

Yeah, sensors will accommodate for any gain in boost, or more to the point, gain in sustained boost.
