8V S3 Tuning Thread

Thanks again Alex...sent them an email to see if I can get that here in Panama...fingers crossed
:)

From what Decked has said, they are the business.

Another option is emailing Harding Performance as I believe they are working with company in Europe for their DSG tune. I know they need to extract file, send it away to get fully rewritten file I believe in concert with someone in Europe and then new file reloaded next day.

They may be able to point you in direction of European dealer.

I think slippage just due to stock software and not hardware so once dsg tune done will be easily able to handle more torque. Slippage generally on LC as such I've never used it. I never use Race mode as too over top so once DSG tune done looking forward to using Race mode and pushing car bit more!

If/when I get used to that can always take next step and go stage 2!

Rogier, your set up will be amazing! Can only dream about a set up like that!

Thanks Aussie. I have emailed both of the Dutch companies Alex and Rogier kindly mentioned so will see what they come back with before talking to HP in Stralia :) I always thought my brother was miles from nowhere in Perth WA....but Panama seems worse when it comes to car mods! Thanks for all your posts mate...really helpful

Cheers Rogier...have emailed them to see what's possible to be done here.
Agree with Aussie....you're car seems like a cracker....nice job

Thanks but i still need to pull the trigger on the TTE conversion, its a lot of money .. but the addiction of more HP is getting the better of me

Looks like I'm going to have to wait for APR's DSG tune....although my mechanic needs to buy more (expensive) software/hardware to be able to do it here and just for me its probably not going to happen....JDEngineering can't do it here....I doubt the other Dutch company either...sob sob :(

Quick update.....given up on the DSG tune for now; my car seems good....no more clutch slippage...you just have to learn where the biting points are and drive accordingly. S3Alex - the guys you put me onto came back to me and offered to send me their equipment if I send them a large deposit and pay for shipping there and back...so worth knowing....but I have decided against it for now.
I just had 10mm front and 15mm rear Spulen spacers put on my car....makes a difference looks wise, especially from the rear. I'd like to drop it to give an even better look but what with the roads here I think I'm going to try 19" wheels at some point....plus the cost of a proper coilover/suspension set up that's adjustable can wait as I'm not desperate.
I also had the new DV+ diverter valve fitted and replaced the turbo inlet and outlet and boost pipes. Maybe its just me, but the car seems to have a bit of a deeper growl now. Anyway, response is very good and am happy.
Some people here have ordered the new Forge intercooler....and the cast downpipe from APR is on order too when its ready.....but for now I think I'm going to enjoy what I have and keep a close eye on what all you guys are up to! :)
Cheers!

Hey, did you install the Spullen inlet and outlet ?
yes I did mate...my mechanic had a little trouble with brackets ie. they didn't have the same ones as OEM...so he had to use some ties...but everything otherwise fit well

Panama, I wouldn't be overly concerned about clutch slippage at this stage. It's mainly been shown on LC and if you have APR dealer then once released you can get that at same time as DP and stage 2! Car would be beast then!

Anyone tried this tune?

http://www.eurodyne.ca/shop/uncategorized/mqbs3/

Eurodyne - MK7 Golf .:R and S3 Reflash with Flash Tool
Eurodyne now offers a reflash for the 2015 Golf R and Audi S3. The reflash does not require ecu removal, and with the included powertap flash tool can be by performed by anyone with a windows laptop and an internet connection. Power and torque gains are as follows;

  • Stage 1 91 octane : 45 hp and 70 FT lbs torque,
  • Stage 1.5 91 octane: 60 hp and 88 Ft lbs torque,
  • Stage 1.5 93 octane: 71 hp and 100 Ft lbs torque.
Once you have purchased the reflash, you can switch between available file versions including stock software for no additional charge from Eurodyne. The included flash software will allow you to do datalogging and supports some diagnostic functions such as clearing fault codes.

Do it yourself tune... you install the tune by yourself and you can load back the original software. That would be great "function" to have, instead of going to some dealer when needed to get back the stock sw. Just wonder about the counters.

Yeah I have come around to that thinking now....however the DSG tuner I'm talking to is telling me the longer I keep driving around with Stage 1 tune the bigger the chance of killing my clutch....I hate that feeling of "should I, shouldn't I"....I suppose any state of enhancement to a car is going to put more stress on areas so you've got to expect to replace stuff earlier

Nope it are the RS6

Nope these are the RS6 C7 Replica ... you want something like this http://www.ldprestige.com/jante/atom-5
ha ha....shows how much I know about wheels :)
they're nice....but if I'm going to replace mine I need them to be light which a lot of them are not....and its ****** hard to find wheel weights!
so far I have found these to be useful:

Anyone offer an opinion on Stage 1 re-map
APR ? AMD ? Other...?

UK owner

I have APR tune and it's fantastic, totally transforms car. I'm in Australia though and not as many options. If I was in UK I would personally go to Rick at Unicorn. Full custom map at great price, wealth of knowledge, might be forum sponsor on here! His maps prob best I've seen on dyno 370-380hp and 400lbs/ ft torque! Has 2 of his mapped cars into 11.9 1/4 with good trap speed to back up what the dyno is showing!

Getting my goodies installed today but bad news! Boost pipes don't fit with VWR intake! My tuner/mechanic also said not easiest fit the pipes. He tested the APR intake and it fit so I've had to change intake over and will sell the VWR!

Decided to get the APR turbo muffler delete installed also as few min job with the piping off.

So pick up car tomorrow with new APR intake, spulen boost pipes, GFB DV+, turbo muffler delete and best of all Harding Performance DSG tune! Obviously super excited!!

Sounds like a really nice lineup of upgrades there! Be interested to know what you think!

Hey Rogier....how do you like the Wagner intercooler? Makes a big difference?

Well thats a good question. First i like tot tell you that the Wagner installation took about an hour or 3-4. The fittings are for the
Golf R and on the S3 they are different. The coolant/freon for the airconditioning sits in front of the adapters of the intercooler and with the Golf R they are not. So it needed some adjustment and a new filling of my airco :) ...

Performance wise ...... i had the installation done in the winter, so i don't have any reference without in the summer. I do know that the temps stayed almost constant at 25 degrees celcius, so thats a good thing. For me it is not only for better performance at higer ambiant temperatures but also for better insurance that the tune does not wreck the other components like a turbo.

What does the turbo delete doe exactly. I tried to understand the APR video and explenation but still have no idea what it does performance wise ?

To be honest very minimal. Mainly will give more turbo sound and may give very minimal response. Only decided to do it as mechanic showed me a stock one and APR one and also since intake off, pipes getting replaced only few min job to swap it over.

I'm not expecting much from pipes, DV+ or muffler delete but should combined give slightly better response, hold boost better and give a nice induction/turbo sound!

Best to get all installed at once as once doing pipes it's very easy to do rest as everything out.

Ok here are my impressions after 30 min driving since collecting car. The response is AWESOME! I can hear turbo spooling from 1500rpm can even hear DV when cruising along with gear changes at 2000 rpm.

Before picking up my car I took my Tuners car for spin and that's stage 2 intake, full exhaust,DSG tune and Tune. He doesn;t have GV+, turbo pipes or Turbo muffler delete and I could instantly feel mine had better throttle response. (defintiely no need to go stage 2 now.)

I had the turbo flutter sound previously and now it's gone. I can only assume it's the GFB DV+ that's fixed this and that's obviously a massive plus!

The upgraded DSG file is much better. It holds gears longer not stupidly racing through gears, especially fixes the light/moderate throttle holding correct gear. It's much faster off mark with no hesitation at all. Race mode is actually usable now with it toned down, doesn't hold gears for eternity like before.

The only negative on them all is the Turbo outlet Piping was an absolute nightmare to install and not a good set up. My tuner/Mechanic concerned as piping closer to engine and had to move couple other things around to get it all to fit. Due to this I would say defintiely DON'T get this.

I would probably say just get throttle pipe if you feel the need. I couldn't be happier with the overall result. Car is totally awesome now. Exactly how I wanted it to be.

I would defintely recommend all the mods except for the Turbo outlet piping!

@aussieR - Nice write up!! I am glad you're happy with the mods. Keep up the good work. Does this mean that you will not be going to Stage 2?

Yes, defintiely no need for stage 2 IMO. I'm now totally happy with cars performance and drivability. Doesn't need anything else. Now just time to ENJOY!!

I just wanted to review to help others, showing my thoughts on what's good or bad. I've had to go ahead with many mods like a test mule and now at least we know Turbo outlet pipe not a good idea at all!

@aussieR thanks for taking the time to do a right up. I have been curious how simple the Spulen pipes install would be, as they don't look that easy to move around in the bay. Also very interesting to know about the issues with the Intercooler install. A friend of mine had the same issues with the supplied instructions for the Forge FMIC for the same chassis, instructions were for a Golf R and are really quite different.

Anyway, thanks for the write up, will help me decide what to do when the time comes!

I haven't got an intercooler upgrade. Mine is on a Mk7R too. The issue was the Spulen turbo outlet pipes. It took my mechanic 4-5 hours to get it installed and he said not a good design at all. I would highly recommend staying away from them.

wait for the cast downpipe from APR...much better quality than a welded tube...in my humble opinion
