has anyone else had a rear washer problem? Washer has suddenly become very poor. I have taken panel off expecting to see the pipe off due to cold weather. Instead it seems that the problem is inside the mechanism and water is pi55ing out of it. any pointers?
i have same problem now with mine too , thought it could be that i didnt dilute washer cleaner enough , i will try more water . hope we find out problem
Mine seems to squirt out around 2 inches of water... I think it may have dirt or something in it so i might put a pin down it to open the hole up.. but its still freezingg so I'm going to wait till it warms up a bit !!
Mine doesn't seem to work properly at all (only have the car a week now, my 1st A3, could be the cold), does the jet come out of the actual wiper arm? The wiper reservoir is heated yes?
Mine doesn't come out much neither and the wiper doesn't even make full contact with the arm. It leaves a gap in the shape of an arch. Wiper arm fault maybe?
As I eluded to above you really need to be using the OEM stuff. It is designed not to crystalise in the jets and also has antifreeze.
Also had my A3 for a week and have to say rear wash wipe isn't very impressive - a dribble comes out from the wiper arm BEFORE the wiper arm moves so more screenwash on boot lid than on windscreen. It then wipes away a couple of times to smear up the screen, got to say that's the only gripe with the new car so far though!!
I had a quick look at mine and i think it may just be blocked. it was really dirty but going to poke a needle in it and see what that does I'm at uni till xmas hols so wont get time to do it soon as the A3s in a secure car park (not my heated garage!) and i dont have a needle :S
Fan jets arent on the 8P mate as I actually got some for the front from the passat to fit, are you telling me the later 8P has fan jets on it now or just rear?
Nige, there's no fan jets on the front of my 07 S3. Would like to fit them though, thought they were great on my wifes last Golf! I imagine they are not a direct swop.
They were on the golf? is that the 4 or 5 mate as thats got me intrigued now if the golf ones are direct swap, the passat ones arent as deep as the existing 8P pin holes version so its kinda loose which can easily be fixed in place with glue & sealant underside so its invisible to eye, but the pipes & wiring are a direct fit, one side might need the wire made slightly longer but still fits just the same, havnt fitted 100% yet as got other things to do but did test momentarily for wiring etc.
It was a good old mk 4. Hope they are a direct swop as that will be going to the top of my to do list!
they were on a polo i had as a courtesy car when my old A3 was in the bodyshop. Cant remember what year it was though. I'd be up for a direct swap option too!
With the rear wiper the screen wash comes out of the actual wiper arm. My current A3 squirts 4 streams of screen wash onto the front screen, well up and into the moddle of the screen and makes a reasonable job when I want to clear the screen. As far as I'm aware only the actaul jets are heated but there is only one reservoir for both front and rear wipers which is located in the engine compartment so it will obviously be warmed to some degree from the heat of the engine. My wife has a new Polo and I pretty sure the jets are the Fan type. I will have a look later and see if I think they would be interchangable in any way.
I got some heated ones with 3 jets (fitted to latest A3 models) from Stoke Audi for £13.30 (see my post,Stoke Audi,Sept 1st) They're not an exact fit,but go on with a good shove, leaving a slight gap top and bottom (about 1mm),but work no probs.
all done and not a penny to pay. Wish i could say same for the 4 months i've had the beemer. Very annoying and expensive sporadic fault
