S3(57REG) OR Scirrocco TSI(59REG)

Mate that was some read. What mobile phone provider do you use?...I'm off to buy shares! :jester:

Paul's thread here is a good read and explains quite a lot 'bout REVO.

Do it, do it. :thrashi:
Thx i will have a good read:salute:

The car needs a remap to feel like an S3. Without one it's an 'S' badged imposter. Weak as a kitten. Get some Revo in your life.

Bit unfair to say weak as a kitten, i thought it was quite nippy and fun ,, quite a bit of lag though??

Saying this im use to Top end revs N/A In the Format of Honda Integra Type R (DC2)

Last of the Proper Drivers car:moa: ( Flame Jacket going back 0n)...

Just Looked at that Link Thread and already read it...lol.. the other night but have a quick re-read:respekt:

Spent loads of time searching for S3 Tuning remaps REVO and or GIAC:rockwoot:Ended up reading all kinds of threads:yes:

Bumped into one about a tuned S3 against standard RS4 and it feeling slow,,,, million pages later ...lol...quite a good read:)

My Friend has a RS4 and its like ****** mint potatoes:thrashi:

You only get 70% of your S3 out of the box.

REVO gives you other 30%...which makes £500 seem a bargain.

Hmmmm, do I feel a slight bias to the S3 due to this being an Audi forum?

I'd take a brand new Scirocco over the S3. It's not as quick, but it feels much more special - the design is head turning, and with a good spec, the interior is a very nice place to be.

Obviously I'm the only one here who thinks that!

I didnt want to say, but since you mentioned it first - I'd have to agree that there's obviosuly strong bias towards S3.

I'd take the S3 now, then get the Rocco next year (or possibly the beef'd up Rocco) - you'll get best of both worlds then!!

:yes:I do like the Rocco shape lots:yes:

Just spent all night nearly reading every thread about S3 Tuning and mapping:lmfao:

Still GIAC and REVO coming in favourites:applaus:

Love to drive both back to back and see what i personally prefer:arco:

Go for the S3, then in a year when it runs out, get the new out Rocco R, I'm thinking of selling a limb to get one after seeing the pics!

Wise words, assuming the R will have 4wd, or VERY clever fwd set up.

Bias towards the S3 indeed, no surprise.....

Im a HUGE fan of the Roccos looks and as a massive fan and previous owner of its predeccessor, the Corrado, in a more guise I will be looking at a Rocco as a possible replacement for the the S3 in the future.

At the minute however, its a bit mouth and no trousers.
200ps just isnt enough.
And although REVO work wonders with the 200ps lump its not the whole answer. Through a puddle in front of a remapped 200ps fwd VAG car and hold on and cross your fingers!

Yet again VW have arrogantly brought out a car with much less power than the competition, underlined further by the new 211bhp Golf Gti.
211bhp? This 2009 ***!
Chickens.

I would like to see the responses to a thread titled.

"4WD Uber Rocco `v` S3"

Although by then AUDI may have raised the bar too?
my 2p

cheers
Paul

Took the very words out of my mouth Paul, spot on to the letter, the Rocco quite literally rocks from the outside & I might be able to get over the interior if it had 4wd, just love that wide rear (no jokes now) with the wider arches, could have some fun with mods on that, but it certainly needs 4wd for me to seriously be interested, cause driving fwd now, it is as you say hit a puddle & hang on for life, lol.

From what I read some months back there isnt going to be 4wd on the R as yet as Dave rightly says, they reckoned then the chassis was that good without it.

Cant see that somehow, really cant.

I quote:

"It breaks tradition with recent Volkswagen R cars, though – gone is six-cylinder power and four-wheel drive, seen with the VW Golf R32 and its 3.2-litre unit, and in its place is a four-pot 2-litre turbocharged engine driving the front wheels."

It should be good boys you lot been spoilt with 4wd:whip:

Just a quick word to add about how the two compare in performance terms - on a dry road, there aint as much in it as you'd think - I've had a couple of run ins with the VW and I didn't exactly leave them for dust. In the wet, well, yeah... bye, bye Rocco.

I was looking at the VW when I was pondering my next car purchase... choices being Rocco, S3, or a low mileage used TTS... or wait for new Golf GTI... anyway, what put me off the VW, aside from the attitude of the sales staff... was the naff interior and poor build quality. For £26k (the cost of the car I would have ordered) I expected a lot better. I thought the car itself was fantastic to look at (although the wheels were IMO the wrong side of bling), it was a lot quicker than I expected it to be and handled very well. Dare I say it was actually more 'fun' to drive than the S3? Hmm, on reflection, I think it was. The S3 can be a little 'safe' but I kinda like that. So, I'm still 100% glad I went for the S3, especially in Ibis White ... as an overall package of quality, performance and prestige it's hard to beat. I'm conident residulas will be better than the VW as well... my missis wanted the TTS by the way! LOL!

Spoilt, nah just sensible, lol.

Sensible can be Boring:lmfao:

4WD isn.t Everything , i do understand what people are saying but say compared to the DC2 Integra Type R i know which one i can drive faster in Dry or wet point to point.:yum:

I will post again after a few months in the S3:think:

The way im trying to explain is that FWD New performance cars have come on leaps and bounds ,,, Honda had it right in 1996??? and still could give all current 200bhp or equvalent cars a run for the money and through the twisties or on Track upset most of them.. Fact:hubbahubba:. Like for Like in standard trim.

I'm not trying to turn this into a debate here with the versus attitude, i personally don.t feel 4WD cracks all the mustard thats all:blahblah1:

I had A STI subaru 53REG for all of 6months , it bored the living soul out of me in standard trim..Lack of Feedback and steering composure to me,,, yet on a subaru forum i would get chewed to pieces for saying such things.. I speak my mind thats all ...

Now i then drove a Focus RS obviously not as fast ,, but what Fun the turn in, the feel , the ability to predict and press was phenominal again in my eyes..

I had this car Back to back with A Civic Type R(EP 3) from week to week they both were good in different ways.

I would love the Civic engine and box and the rest be the Focus RS ,, Now that would be awesome:icon_thumright:

Going a bit off topic sorry chaps

S3 is a Quaity car no disputing that its sheer class with the comfort and performance to match.

I appreciate no end as my company car :yahoo:,, but for grin factor and Sports car drivers appeal, if i had the choice on road or track i would choose the DC2 when both are sat on the drive ... i understand if you don.t see where im coming from here guys ,, if you have owned or driven one hopefully you might...:asskicking:

I will now put my Fame jacket on for the 3rd time):Flush:

Roll on the REVO:tapedshut:

The Honda Integra is an amazing car, and probably one of the best FWD cars there has ever been. As an out an out drivers car there is not a VW Group car to touch it in it's sector.

However, I don't think its a car without some compromise. I've spoken to a few owners who say the ride can be joint batteringly hard, and they drone on motorways.

The S3 does pretty much everything well, but nothing exceptionally. It is an amazing car for covering long distances, or for making good cross country progress, and you never get out at the end of the journey feeling like you've been assaulted. You can park it anywhere without excessive attention (The Ritz or the Ghetto!), and it's the best place to sit hatchback wise bar none. It's the kind of car you can't help appreciate when you get to a certain point in your life. I can forgive it for it's slightly soft edges for all it does so well. Tuned up it is quite a car, and when you tune it to 330bhp+, for the 190 wet days Britain gets each year the Haldex system provides the safety net the FWD VAG's can't offer.

We should just have a genric thread on the S3 vs the world and wheel it out from time to time. Horses for courses, try it, like it, get it; don't like it, don't get it.

Firstly :sign_welcome: to the forum and the S3 club if you decide to stay with it. Not read a starting post as long as that for a long while .:readit:

Ive recently purchased an S3 an had the Milltek TBE fitted at awesome, took them up on the free fitting offer. The Forge CAI i ordered arrived on Friday so just need to find some time to fit it. My next decision is the map, ive been out in stage 1 revo'd S3'd and loved them, theres a chap from Stockport on the forum with a stage 2 GIAC S3 so im gona have a run out with him. I will be going straight for stage 2, in the end i will probably end up going REVO as i know its tried, tested and proved.

Ive also been in conact with Mike at Votex who was very helpful, Prosort we not as helpful. I did also think about going direct to Revo HQ in Northhampton.

No doubt some of these revvy ricers are a hoot, Im with you on that. My old CTR was probably the most fun car Ive had when you are feeling lairy.
But when you werent having a giggle and thrashing its pants off, it wasnt very good.

So, brilliant 10% of the time.
Not so brilliant the other 90%.
Once you got tired of revving the nuts off (you do feel a bit of a ****) the car becomes a bit pointless.

As for the Scooby, I tested one back to back with the CTR and found the CTR MUCH better, so bought the CTR.
Havent driven a really quick scooby but was left completely unimpressed by the std Uk spec car, a lot of fuss about nowt.

Now happily back in the VAG stable. Boxes ticked.

If 4wd isnt that important, what about a lightly used MK5 ED30 or Pirelli?
Should represent good VFM now that the MK6 is around.

cheers
Paul

Yes i found Mike very helpful , genuine and honest when asking several technical questions,, so he gets might vote , localish to me:yes:

Not so brilliant the other 90%. come on
Once you got tired of revving the nuts off (you do feel a bit of a ****) the car becomes a bit pointless. I hear you but this is your opinion so i will respect it ,, i could really get into this but don.t want it to sound like a versus debate and going so off topic but as a car nut , and enthusiast,, people if kept friendly could learn lots ... i like lots of different cars for different reasons through different manufactures.

Toatally depends on your style of driving and just to let you know the EP3 is whole different car to the the DC2 to be honest. But thats a whole new debate:no:.. I agree revving the nuts of the car ,, thats the part i like, it makes so much sense in any driving fast or racing situation ( like on track). Roads its not really where you should be planting your foot to be honest although from time to time we all do it.:busted_cop:

I probably would if had the opputunity heard nothing but good reviews with the ED30's
