MAf cleaning..quick question

I'd avoid carb cleaner as it contains oil to lubricate as well as clean.
stick to electrical contact cleaner or brake cleaner which evaporate almost instantly.

get it checked on vagcom afterwards....MAF doesnt respond well to cleaning of any nature from what ive seen in the past - i just replaced the thing

I have to say I don't think cleaning is worth the effort, get yourself an OEM replacement not some cheap one from eBay or even from GSF/ECP (Yeah I know they are Bosch), stick to the main dealers.

I cleaned mine a while back using isopropanol (sp?)

About £5 from maplins

Just make sure you give it plenty of time to dry properly

lots of people cleaned their MAF's without problem.
ditto on the letting it dry FULLY before reconnecting

lots have cleaned them with bad effect too. my mind is that if theres any question then repalce unless the cost is huge...which it wasnt...just my take though

The MAF can have a huge effect on the performance and economy of your car - You've only got to consider the reasons why you want to change it. IMHO spend the £65 or on a new one and be sure it's working properly, after all you don't change the oil and clean the filter do you.
