basically when the setting as at high the temperature would cook human flesh, however once i hit the minus button just once (1/2 a degree down), the blowing air turns bitterly cold, what would be the prob folks? cheers.

does the temp display continue to go down or stay on same temp when it drops to freezing, in other words is it a stuck button so when you press once its staying in therefore temp goes to bottom?

Or does it display same 27.5 from 28 & its freezing at 27.5, I'd do a vag but could be faulty climate but also is it called a heater matrix for this system???

Stuck button has happened to me but of course showed the temp going down/up

Ours does the same, but at the lower temps. Set it to 18 and it can be blowing warm, even on a hottish day, set it to lo and adjust the fan down to 2 or 3 bars and it's lovely and cool. Whereas my B5 can be just set to 20 and never need to touch it.

vagcom would help, could be a stuck flap or faulty temp sensors-think the B6 has 4.

no mate the display stays at 17.5, will get it on the computer tpday, are the sensors easy to change?

It's always best to leave the temp at a fixed setting and leave it at that. The trouble with climate control is people don't fully understand how it works and treat it like a MK3 Escort (3 knobs ;))

If you've had it on HI for a while and then lower the temp it's quite possible the system will blow cool air, so in can lower the cabin temp ASAP. It's also why sometimes at first you can't adjust the fan speed, the system knows it will cool the cabin faster than heat it!

The question is why set it to HI? We haven't had the weather for it yet. If you set it to say 25° the system will get the cabin to 25° just as fast as if you set it to HI and then have to turn it back down because it's too hot. I hope that makes sense to you.

In four years of ownership I've never used HI once.

I'm not saying there isn't a fault with your car but if people understand how climate control works it can save a lot of confusion!
