Hi,

Does a 18" s-line wheel fit in the spare tyre well? This is on a quattro, just after changing the space saver for a spare full size wheel.

Any ideas?

Cheers

That would mean taking my wheel off the car. Im too lazy for that if someone has already done it.:gaehn:

HEHE cheers though

He said he has a space-saver spare wheel. I didn't realise any A3 came with a space-saver, is it the quattro that makes the boot too shallow for a full size wheel?

No - my 05 S-Line (2.0TDi FWD) only had a skinny spare, now swapped for a pair of Alpine PDX Amps.

Yes what i was meaning was i would like to change my space saver for a full size wheel. Just wondering if it fits in there without having to take my wheel off and put in the boot....

Cheers

I had several punctures on my S-line, I never struggled to get replacement tyres quickly (I think a day, at most).
I also found one could drive surprisingly quickly on the spacesaver.
So I don't really see what you'd gain from squeezing a full size S-line wheel in.
If you really want a 'proper' wheel, why not go for a smaller steel wheel or alloy one off a base line model?
That's what I've done with my Alpina.
Might fit into your wheel well nicer than an S-line one too.
I got a 16" alloy, with tyre, for £42 off ebay.

Yeah just the idea behind it was that if i get a flat i can pop a new tyre on and then could pay internet prices for tyres...

Also if i were to damage a wheel i would have a good spare!-

Don't take this the wrong way mate but can't you tell by looking? I wouldn't expect you to take your wheel off just to see but have a look at the bay the space saver is in, how much room is there above it? I think you'll soon realise that there isn't enough room.

You could do your first idea with any old wheel.
With regard to your second point, you can alloys fixed cheap enough, still using your cheap wheel/tyre off ebay.
Okay, your car will look daft for day or two, but that goes for the spacesaver too.
So I still think a full size S-line wheel and tyre is overkill, TBH.
If you can afford it though, go for it.

One of the advantages of having the space saver wheel is that if forces you to get the full size one repaired\replaced. If you can just bolt on a full size wheel, then you might be inclined to forget about getting the old one fixed and then be stuck on a motorway or in the middle of nowhere with no spare wheel.

I always refer to the space saver as a "get you there wheel" rather than spare wheel.
