Having some problems with my drivers side window switches, sometimes they will work perfectly other times they won't, sometime the auto function works sometimes it dosnt, amongst other issues like one window switch working and the others playing up, but it's only the drivers window switches not each individual switch at each door so I'm assuming it's something to do with the wiring loom inbetween the door and the car.

You weren't in Vcd's before this happened and played with some settings , the reason i ask is i was in mine and played with the window locks and ended up changing the way they worked and your problem was one off them .

As above start with the wiring inbetween the door, if that all checks out OK (do a wiring check direct at plug into door controller instead of just a visual) then do a diagnostic scan on the drivers door, the window switch is in a prime place for water to drip down when the window is opened so may have become corroded inside.

No never used vcds, I use a Foxwell NT500 VAG Scanner for all my diagnostics and such like, the only error that that shows up in terms of the door electrics is passenger wing mirror heater malfunction,

If you're intending on getting more VAG cars in the future then VCDS is a must.
Or other solution is getting the car to a VW / Audi specialist who can scan with VCDS or ODIS.

I think its quite common tbh, I test drove an A4 when looking for a new car and this had the same issue, and my father in laws a4 had this window switch issue also, his was damaged wires in the loom due to the door being opened n closed over the years, think think this is my issue to but will have a proper look, like I've mentioned though my VAG scanner shows no faults with the system. Would usually show up a "loss of signal" or something along them lines if the wiring was damaged.
