cambelt change cost ?

ive got my 2000 plate a6 booked in the garage next week for its cambelt change which is due at 75,000 ish miles the cost is £120 + vat + parts ie. cambelt kit which costs £88 is this a good price for the work and can i get a cambelt kit any cheaper ?
 
This seems a good price. I was looking at ebay and noticed that Stafford Audi do the cambelt change I think the 4 cylinder models are £250 you need to quote the ebay offer when getting the price. A couple of other dealers do similar offers. This includes the belt and the tensioner.

My wifes Beetle needs a cambelt change and initially this was £380 from our local VW dealer but I got them down to £250 for the cambelt and tensioner plus I agreed to pay an extra £40 for the water pump to be changed at the same time.
 
i did ask about the water pump but was told that they dont need changing because there reliable parts on a reliable car ive seen the ebay offers so i thought what i was offered was a good price and the fact it cost £300 to get the cambelt done on my old vectra i just wondered if i could get the cambelt kit any cheaper

Dont be fooled by the water pump is reliable B*ll*cks get it done for £40 its worth the extra. if the garage dont want to do it then go elsewhere these are notorious for going and if it siezes it will take the cam belt with it and then its expensive as these are inteferance engines therefore the valves will get mangled then new head and or pistons or valves. If your garge is saying dont bother then i would question there expertise on audis. It is a common failure.

Mine all in cost 384 just after xmas which was reasonable for a v6. The water pump failed as it was not done at the cambelt change
(79K)but luckily did not sieze and i was close to home so as iwas at it i got the cambelt replaced again as it was all off 140K.
 
i need to know if the cambelt kit i need has to have an anti vibration damper with it or not any ideas ?
 
I assume its a 1.8T. When you change the cambelt there are 2 pulleys that need to be changed. There is a large one that is attached to the tensioner system to take up any slack on the belt and a smaller idler pulley. You should be changing both plus the tensioner itself
 
I paid £250 for cambelt, tensioners and pulleys, auxiliary belt and water pump on my A4 last week.

well i asked for a cambelt kit but the only options i was given where with or without the anti vibration damper so i can only assume the other bits are already in the kit and yes its a 1.8t

where was that at cuz thats a good price init
 
just got off the phone to stafford audi and there telling me that i dont need to replace my waterpump as its not cambelt driven and they never change the anti vibration damper just a ribbed belt which costs another £20 does this sound right because shrewsbury audi where telling me the exact opposite
 
update just been comfirmed that on my engine only the cambelt and tensioners need to be changed so its only going to cost me £67.12 for parts and £120 + vat for labour bargain
 
you have to remove the cambelt if you want to change the water pump so it advisable to do it while the cambelt is getting changed otherwise if you get a problem with the water pump you have to pay for all the labour of a cambelt change to change a low cost pump. While you at it its a good idea to change the oehter belts. i think there are 3 in total
 
I think your right the later engins only need the drive belts removing only I looked it up on elsawin.

Give Midland VW a ring, 01543 495 700, mine on my S3 was 270 all in, cambelt, tensioners, waterpump and fanbelt, cant go wrong!!!
 
its only 2002 models upwards where the waterpump needs doing at the same time thats what audi told me
 
Mine is a 99 with 98000 on the clock. The water pump went underwarranty at 48000 and the dealer had to remove the timing belt to change the water pump.
I did the timing belt myself again last October and I changed the water pump at the same time. To get access to the water pump you have to rmove the lower timing belt pulley which means basically the whole timing belt procedure.
For the sake of a cheap part i'd get it done. if you reply with the engine code I can check on elsawin for you
 
Well if its apu its the same engine. if you pm me with an email address i'll send you some photos of the job as I did it to show you where the water pump is and how to take it out
 
UPDATE: job done i got the cambelt,tensioners,water pump,belts, and a couple of other little jobs done all for a total of £266 im chuffed seeing how it was £300 for my old vectra lol
