Hi Guys,

Just after a bit of input on 5000 mile oil change intervals.

There are a vast mixture of opinions online between it being a waste of time and that it can even do damage, with cleaning properties of the oil lasting 3/4000 miles and constantly loosening up all the bad stuff?...

Some say it’s good for cars that make a lot of short trips and driven hard. Now my car will probably do 10,000 miles a year if not a bit more, and it will be on the annual servicing with Audi. But I’m considering because say 60% of my driving is within a 10/15 mile radius and I’m not shy of putting my foot down, a 5000 mile change might be wise?

Then on comes the question of what oil, but I will leave that and let the specialists decide when I have a chat tomorrow. Obviously it will be within VAG spec, but I want to know what is the best of what we are ‘allowed’ to use and I will supply Audi the chosen oil when it is serviced thereafter, retain some consistency because each dealer seems to use a different oil.
I would like a 5000 mile change as a tuning specialist, 10k at Audi, 15k at a specialist and so forth... that way I know the car is getting proper treatment around the monkeys at some Audi dealers you all deal with, I definitely don’t mean the ones I deal with or have dealt with :)

I guarantee the next thing now, I will have a dealer telling me I’ve posted online advertising that I’m not following the Audi service schedule and changing the oil that often isn’t as per their recommendation and therefore my warranty is void. So no Audi, I’m not going to change my oil more frequently for that purpose.

Cheers :)

Matt.

i'd say do it....can't see how it harms the car in anyway

Think you're worrying too much. Just stick to Audi's recommended intervals and you'll be fine.

On my previous car I had an oil change at 1000 miles and it’s surprising the condidtion of the oil, that said it will be because of the engine bedding in

I think on the RS3 I’m just going to stick with the schedule Audi recommend... if there’s any problems you’ve done as the manufacture has advised so they can’t argue

Never heard any sensible person say that changing engine oil frequently can be either bad or loosen deposits so that they cause problems. However, I have heard it said for "flushing" additives

Do it, I used to change 10k max on mine, more so in Winter/short commutes.

Agreed.
If your you going to keep it after the warranty the be picky.
If not then stick to Audi recommendations.

Will be doing the same thing audinutta myself. Was told once the ingredient to a long life engine is fresh oil. Not a lot to pay out for and about an hour of you own time. Will use my local TPS for the oil and filters.

Not worrying just want to look after the car so it lasts, if I’m keeping this car 6 years then it will be a 70-80,000 mile RS.

I’ve got the 5 year warranty and expect the car to be with me quite a bit longer than that, I will be extending it for sure.

I can't see you keeping a car that long. Something bigger, better, newer always comes along, and being car nuts we just have to have the latest toys.

For me, like you said.. it’s of very little cost for 5000 miles of driving and if it means keeping a healthier, happier and better performing engine I’m all for it.

I’m also more than happy dropping oil on the drive, but for me I think I’d rather pay my local specialist £120 to get it done on a ramp to get an invoice and give the car a good going over at the same time.

The car is going to be with me a long time, I can’t even put a time on it. I’m paying 4 years of PCP, I will finance the GFV. By the end of the PCP I hope to be in or near to a decent position to get on the property ladder, while paying the GFV. Once I’m living comfortably, I will change the car... that’s the plan. Unless if I changed for a car of equivalent cost beforehand which wouldn’t be a downgrade, only a B8 RS4.. haha. I must own one of those in my lifetime... not the car to have when saving for a house deposit though.

I can’t see my having it that long, longest car I’ve owned out of 5 (RS is the 5th), is 15 months and that was my A3 S Line.

But as above, when I’m trying to move out I can’t be changing the car every couple of years it just won’t work. I’m paying a mortgage for this car... :lmfao:

Yup . We justify the initial purchase by having the long view.. never works out like that.

I intend to win the lottery this weekend. So goodbye to mortgages and PCP!

Then I'll get a remap.
