Litchfield (famous GTR/Scooby) tuner have announced they are doing 480 bhp stage 1remap for only £600. Lot cheaper than i was expecting !

Stage 2 at 500 bhp jumps up as looks like it needs new intercooler

Sounds about right. MRC will be about £750 but are obviously renowned and highly regarded and probably who I'd use.

If £1458 is a fitted and a Stage tuned price, that is very good value.

Forge FMIC is retailing at £1050 + Fitting so you’re getting very good value for money on this.

Not sure how good the Litchfield tunes are though, it’s their own in house dyno so always sceptical.

To be fair they've been in the tuning game a fair while (albeit more focussed on Japanese cars) and 480bhp seems consistent with other tuners claims.

Agreed, for peace of mind, I’d rather spend that bit more and go with a very reputable tuner in the Audi scene. Chap that drinks in my brothers pub has a stage 2 Audi RS7, had many an Audi and always tuned via MRC

Yes, well aware of their repuatation in the GT-R and older Japanese market cars but they are not Audi specialists in the same way MRC/APR and the likes are not Nissan GT-R specialists.

Iroz and Custom Code posted their package recently which shows 525hp at Stage 2 but this is with the downpipe and the intercooler. Let me find it.

Edit, it’s 524whp on their Stage 2 and E85 tune.

US dyno probably means whp = bhp but god knows, their 1/4m times suggest 550hp+

So how reliable are these? I mean at 500bhp are these engines and gearbox’s overly stressed?
My last GTR was 666bhp from 530bhp and was fine all day long without launching, are these going to last? I only ask as this will be my first Audi and I know nothing about there reliability.

Yes, I wouldn’t be surprised if the full stage 2 was around 525hp and the Stage 2+ with E85/Race fuel up at around 575hp.

I wouldn’t have thought so.

500hp in a 400hp designed engine is only a 25% uplift. Some VAG based engines are strong for upto 100% uplifts in power.

There are 2.0t cars (S3’s/Golf R’s) with a base 300hp running 550hp no probs. The older 2.5t engines were good for 700hp from a base 335hp.

Tuners will no doubt find the limits but think they will be well above 600.

Sounds good I’m only planning on maybe stage 1 if I do map it, was only planning to put a tuning box on it. But I’m not a fan of these and you never get as good a map, but keeping warranty was my plan as I wasn’t planning on keeping it passed 2 years.

Stage 1 sounds food for that price.
If new intercooler firs in same place and direct fit replacement then great again.

Wonder if gearbox map will be out soon to.

Be good to see what APR and MRC release soon on normal fuel.

Is the sports exhaust no longer with the 1k extra if by default no pops and bangs and it doesn't help with more power

This is the message I got from MRC today. Stage 1 With just a high flow filter.

“usually these are doing 393ps -405ps and 500nm sotck and they go upto 470-485ps and 600-650nm on stage1”

Just browsing their site and looks like they have been tuning Audis for a while and been in some of the big mags and reviewed
RS6 package with 750bhp and the older RS3 model

Just looked at the Litchfield Facebook page. The grey RS6 they had on their dyno in late September looks suspiciously like the same car that MRC were sorting out (misfires) in their 6th Nov facebook page. MRC did not specifically name the tuner with the misfires but looks like the same car to me. If it is the same car (checkout the sticker on the air intake), it looks like it's wearing an ABT badge on the boot in the Litchfield pics. Did Litchfield not spot any running issues when testing the intake designs?

Those figueres are a little mixed up? PFL does 393 - 405ps stock and FL reach to 470 - 485ps with stage 1 as far I have read here? I mean FL should be capable to more than the 400ps announced?

I'll be using Litchfields for my tuning when I get my car. Used them for all my GTR tuning.

That’s the message they said to me mate

I've been using Litchfield for many of my projects for over 12yrs now and for me, they have never let me down and always delivered the goods.

My previous Subaru's have delivered the goods, my previous A45 with their tuning achieved the quickest 1/4m in the UK and so has my current Stage 2 RS3 (like for like mods versus anything else that has ran in the UK down the strip).

Dyno's don't tell me everything..... trap speeds and ET's down the strip tell me a lot more.

My RS3 is now going through a more extensive upgrade program over this Winter (with Litchfields and their technical partners) so will be interesting to see how that goes when it hits the strip again in 2018.

We all have our preferred tuner(s)..... it's a choice. I've heard horror stories about all of them, and whilst I would never dream of stating Litchfields were the best, they have always done me good. That's all I care about.

Have Litchfield said anything about how much the clutch/gearbox can take before needing upgrading?

Around 550ftlb / 750nm is apparently what you don't want to be exceeding to maintain longevity. This information is from Iroz. Personally I prefer as flat a torque curve as possible, and based on the calculations you can achieve over 700bhp whilst remaining within these kinds of torque levels. More than enough torque and power capability imo. lol

However, you need to be take into account that MAHA dyno's (as in what Litchfields have) tend to read between 5-7% lower on torque compared to many other dynos.

You really don't want to be cracking the gearbox case.

How much are new clutch packs for the gearbox? And how many miles should one last with normal use?

I was told but can't remember precisely..... under a grand though so not expensive.

Assuming a car is stock or not too highly modified, they should last a long time tbh.

Prob only planning stage 2 max so that sounds okay for me.

I have heard numbers from tuner doing it on a golf and it was several grands with all the work done by the shop. If you can do it yourself its cheaper of course but most of us can’t.
