HELLO AGAIN . HAVING JUST AQUIRED THE 2013 SPORTBACK CRBC DIESEL 2.0 (8V) WITH 168000 MILES , FIRST JOBS I HAVE HAD DONE TO TRY TO GIVE HER SOME EXTRA LONGIVITY : GATES BELT SET/IDLERS/WATER PUMP / TENSIONER+ AUX BELT AND TENSIONER/ ALL FILTERS CHANGED INC DIESEL FILTER AND AUDI OIL. 2 NEW AUXILLIARY PUMPS AND RAD. FIRST JOB WAS OF COURSE THE GATES KIT,FITTED AS SOON AS I HAD HER. UNBEKNOWN TO ME AT THE TIME I HAD THIS WORK DONE , THE CRBC ENGINE HAS A WET BELT DRIVEN OIL PUMP TO CRANKSHAFT BOTTOM PULLEY. I CANNOT SEE ANY SERVICE HISTORY MENTIONING THIS BELT REPLACEMENT , HAD I KNOW I WOULD HAVE REPLACED IT AT THE TIME OF THE BELT KIT FITTING ,AS OBVIOUSLY THE BOTTOM PULLEY AND ENGINE WILL REQUIRE RE-TIMING. THE CAR HAS HAD THE NORMAL SERVICE OIL CHANGES WITH CORRECT OIL BUT I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE CHANGING THIS BELT . I APPRECIATE THIS MAY BE DUE TO NOT THAT MANY CARS WITH THIS SET UP REACHING THESE HIGH MILES ( ESPECIALLY BADLY OR NOT SERVICED CORRECTLY ) HAVE BEEN RECORDED. I WORRY NOW THAT IT MAY BE AT A CRITICAL STAGE FOR REPLACEMENT , AND HAVING SPENT £2500 ALREADY , IN 12 MTHS , RELUCTANT TO GO FOR IT YET. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY COMMENTS REGARDING THESE BELTS POTENTIAL LIFESPAN ,IF THE CAR IS SERVICED REGULARLY ? OR ANYONE HEAR OF OTHERS CHANGING THE BELT ? ANY INFO OR FEEDBACK RELATED TO THE BELT LIFE/CHANGE WELCOME. .... REGARDS STEFAN

ANYONE HAVE HAD EXPERIENCE WITH THESE WET BELTS , OR KNOW OF A REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE ... ? I UNDERSTAND IF IT LAMINATES IT CAN BLOCK THE OIL PICK UP STRAINER IN THE SUMP , OR WORST STILL CAUSE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE IF IT SNAPS .. OUCH ! ANY GUIDANCE APPRECIATED ... THANKS ... STEFAN

Got the oil pump wet belt changed at 80,000 miles on my A3 8V 2.0 tdi when I got the timing belt and water pump done.

Got myself a Skoda Yeti 2.0 tdi 4x4 with 149,000 miles on it and got the timing belt and water pump done at 150,000 miles then discovered the oil pump wet belt when I put a new sump on it. Now it's got 155,000 miles on it and I will get the timing belt done again along with a new oil pump and oil pump wet belt. Wish I had known about the oil pump belt before getting the timing belt done recently.

The important thing about wet belts is that you can not just put any engine oil in it. It must also be an engine oil which does not dissolve the belt. Then everything should be fine and the belt will last.
If you don't do maintenance yourself, ask which specific oil your maintainer uses (not just brand and weight, but also the version), supply your own oil or tell them which oil you want so they purchase that instead (if it's not the right oil)

Thankyou both for your replies. I have changed the engine oil and filter twice since i have had the car. only a few thousand miles between the changes. Filter and oil were very clean when i did the changes using the audi recommended oil. The oil was ,when i got the car very clean.but of an unknown origin. My issue is that the car came without history or service record and handbook ! i did manage to get the early registered dealer records online , but nothing after, that,so i assume it was indy serviced ,so in the dark really. I do know that it was looked after from the condition of the car , and also as a high miler of motorway miles. I did not see any dirt or bad signs in the old filters removed during the oil changes , so it looks good from that point of view . I suppose with not being sure of the past oil type being correct or not , only leaves me with the option of changing the belt and crankshaft pulley seal to be sure ! whilst in there doing this job, do these oil pumps have a good history of longivity , provided of course that regular and correct oil + filter changes have been done ? Any ideas at the cost of a new pump to buy or can they be reserviced ? I may have a go myself , are they plug and play or need codeing ? sorry for the long winded post ! All replies welcome ... it helps other members too .. kind regards stefan.
