Just checking in on you guys, hope you’re all ok and the cars are behaving.
I’ve downsized now, well a few months ago now to much more manageable home .
Still driving the the Allroad barge and it’s running reasonably well, a few issues with a potential sticking watergate actuator and associated mil light but under control at the moment.
I aborted theRS4 in the end due to other issues and to be honest I’m kinda glad I did .
Anyway , picking up a cheap b7 next week to play around with and see what I can come up with
So, will be back on the forum with vigour
I never realised how nice thatched cottages are to live in, they frightened me off in the past but very happy with my choice

Yeah, we are doing just fine... a shame about the rs4, but at least you docked the v8 tax ;)...
So what type are you going for this time petrol or diesel?

It’s a bit of a bargain basement project really.
Brilliant black 2.0Tdi S-line avant, auto.
It’s been sitting unloved for a few years do needs some love but overall a nice car.
Had a good service history and only one failed mot since new.
For the price it’s worth a go for a project base car.

Like all b7's, just make sure to check the tmc module for any faults... if it has them best to have it refurbished as not only will they load the latest software to it, they use thicker wiring and higher heat resistant solder flux, thus making the module more resilient to the heat of the gearbox oil. And if you can have it sitting frlor a while, it'll be the cheapest solution to send it off for that work. Getting it out isn't hard, just awkward. And for 150 pounds, the best solution is to buy a refurbished one, which will be around 550 ex vat (possibly what you paid for the b7)

Other than that... check if the gearbox has 7 fixed gears... if it doesn't, it was a recall, so you should be able to get it done at almost no cost at the dealer...(yes i did run into a b7 automatic without 7 fixed gears a few days ago, so they are still around)

and this is a question i've been having for a while i dislike the noise of the OEM double horn my car came with... are there any meatier sounding ones around that people have used that didn't cause a problem... Yeah i rather have a loud one that sounds like a train horn but that is overkill, I just want something sounding louder and has a deep tone... even the vauxhall vectra horn was more manly than the squeaky b7 avant has.

Please if you have a suggestion put a link up ;)

Hi Rob,
Welcome back, and now I understand about the RS4, but getting an oil burner ?
My car is still running well, changed the track rod ends and wheel allingment done. All good.
Still not done the rear cam chain yet, but it can wait for now, checked with VCDS and OBD11 and is only 2 below the expected.
Washed and polished last week, looking good, just need to get my wheels refurbished.

Don't knock oil burners, chap - the old 2.0TDI Avant is still running like a good 5 year old, at over 285,000 now:thumbs up:

Welcome back Rob! Excellent choice, I would say ha ha. Has it had the hex key oil pump upgrade? If not, or unknown, I'd definitely make that your first priority, then they can be bullet proof.

Can be but it's got a CVT and that comes with some extra care... ps the gearbox oil is liquid gold, best to replace the internal filter too whilst you are replacing the oil... they aren't lifetime filters, according to Audi they are, but the gearbox manufacturer states they need to be replaced every 3 years, and that lines up with the set gearbox oil swap of every 30k miles. When I serviced mine I ran into all the problems you can have with the CVT and if it wasn't for me needing to replace the TMC also, it would've cost me the oil and filter only. As an extra cost ontop of the other stuff I sorted out when I just bought the car.

Still worth every penny I spend on it. As it drives like a car that's new. And ever since they flashed the latest software to the refurbished TCM it shifts gears way faster in both D and S... I did add the shiftpedals, for more comfort. Something I highly recommend if you got an automatic gearbox.
