So long RS3

After 3 and a half years I’ve moved on from my RS3. Test drove the RS5 avant, what a car but I went down a different hybrid route! Other than the rear camera fault after the biblical storm on our way to the south of France and a couple of pothole induced tyre replacements, it hasn’t missed a beat. No software issues, rattles or problems that some others have suffered. It’s a great car but life moves forward. After 21000 miles I’d averaged 31.5mpg which for a car like this is impressive.

My wife still has her SQ2 so I’m still part of the Audi family. I’ll still lurk in the background and maybe back when my new ride is due for a change.

LOL - I’ve got a Range Rover Sport PHEV and it’s like driving an armchair! It’s chalk and cheese compared with the RS3 and the RS5.

Pretty much the opposite extremes there!

Range Rovers (as well as the Defender) are amongst the quite few vehicles that still remain absolutely great design-wise. They just tend to have the reputation that you can't do a single journey with them without something breaking. Hopefully that's just the caricature...

I left my opinion out of it but right at the end of my street is the BMW/Range Rover/Mini dealer and the amount of cars i see return on a regular basis into the garage at the back.... well as i said i hope for you, you have a better one than those. And when i say on a regular basis i mean on a regular basis... no they aren't staff cars, they are client cars. I was realy into the bmw x5 mk2 as i would see them on a daily basis in that nice m trim, but than i noticed the amount of times i would see the same cars brought back into the garage at the back (usually brought in on a trailer) And be there for a while... it put me off them completely. Not just the range\land rovers, but certain engined mini's and bmw's also... So if i was to ever go for one of those i kinda have an idea of which engines to avoid. But it's not just engine problems some models have electrical problems that just keep coming back and span the complete model range.

But some never come back ( apart from the yearly service) so there is hope

I've done the "regular basis" thing with my previous 8Y's. But the latter one confirmed me that it's tolerable as long as I don't have to pay repairing some unexpected and often comical issue by myself. So I was happy (enough) to buy another one with an extended warranty.

I think your right as I’ve also just become a grandad for the first time.

Thanks for the messages and I agree that the reputation is one for repair repair repair. We had an Evoque in 2105 and other than service and tyres it never missed a beat. Don’t worry I’ll still be lurking and watching the RS5 hybrids with a close eye. When my grandchild is older I hope they are into cars too and will love The experience
