Has and one tried both, is the adaptive better in any areas of comfort or performance?

I've only driven it with the adaptive suspension, but I can tell the difference between comfort and dynamic is significant. If you're gonna use it as a daily, I'd recommend the adaptive suspension. The regular one must handle even the track driving so I figure it can't be nowhere near as comfortable as the adaptive one set in comfort mode. But I must admit I have no idea how big the difference is in the prices - it's easy for me to recommend the adaptive one since we have it as standard... at least, because the car is insanely expensive to begin with.

Would be interesting to hear how big the difference really is, if somebody's driven them both.

I had it on my 8V and only ever used it in comfort mode once when pot holes were really bad on the motorway. The difference was quite significant. Never had it on the 8Y though.

I had 2 x 8YFL - Carbon and then Vorsprung. The Vorsprung in comfort mode is noticeable that it is more compliant than the fixed dampers in the Carbon. It's not an enormous shocking difference, but I could notice it. I have my personalised RS setting with dampers in comfort mode. Works fine for me. I don't need to be shaken about over every ripple in the surface of the road, and roads local to me are dreadful with poor surfaces generally and some wheel damaging potholes.

The 8V had Magride, the 8Y system is a simpler one more akin to the adaptive dampers on the Golf 7.5R.

The performance of Magride dampers is on another level but unfortunately a bit hamstrung on the RS3 by the MQB chassis.

I now have a dedicated controller for the Magride and I have to admit the difference is significant, you get everything Audi left on the table. Dynamic is usable again and 'Auto' just works. it calibrates height on the fly.

The ability to change at 800 times a second has not been bettered but unfortunately too expensive for penny-pinching new cars.

I can confirm the difference between comfort and dynamic (on an 8Y S3) is very noticeable - my wife was using the car a bit more than usual for about a week and every time I got in it, it would be maybe 100 yards or less before my brain was saying "what's wrong with the suspension" before kicking in properly and remembering to put it back in dynamic.
