Steering error after battery discharge

So my battery died because I was away and did not drive the car whilst my Dashcam was connected.

I charged the battery but now getting a steering fault error and the car is not starting.

Any advice on how to resolve ?

I've seen various errors but that's not one of them. Sorry, but can't help. That's one for Audi I think. Any errors I've had have cleared themselves after a period of time and restarts. Once they clear and it's been into Audi for a service they say nothing showed up.

First I'd try to just keep the ignition on for a while to see if anything happens. Many of the faults of that kind clear themselves if you drive a while, but apparently it's not possible if the car doesn't even start.

It will probably require expert help. AFAIK if you need to change the battery you can't just take the old one out and throw a new one in, but the car needs to be connected to a temporary power source while the battery being replaced. So if your battery was totally dead then there may be some real problem because the car having been completely without power.

So battery wasn’t replaced. Just discharged and I recharged it with a ctek charger.

Audi on call couldn’t assist and it was towed to the dealership. Will update

Yep I got that, just meant that if the car battery dies completely, it could cause similar issues to replacing the battery without temporary power supply, as it shouldn't be done without.

There are a few procedures that require the battery to be disconnected and powered down such as installing/removing airbags and airbag modules. This should not cause any long term faults.

All the errors from a battery disconnect should go within a few metres of driving and turning the steering left to right.

As the car will not start then there may be a possibility the battery has been deep discharged and depending on the type fitted (EFB or AGM) it may need taking off and reconditioning with a good smart charger. The battery can still show fully charged but not have enough to start the car. EFB are known for that if they have been fully discharged.

My guess is a new battery and a short drive will fix everything.

Update

So the battery was fully charged and reconditioned yet the steering fault persisted and the car couldn’t be started.

The car was towed to the dealership and they replaced a module that controls the steering lock.
The car now starts but the power steering is not functional and they are now replacing the steering column under warranty.

I can’t understand how the battery drain can be linked ?

Sounds mental that a drained battery would break the steering column.

Sometimes it looks to me that if the car is under warranty, the dealer's solution for problems is mostly just to replace parts or even bigger entities rather than go deep searching the actual reason for the fault, which may even be a very small one. And if Audi is the one who pays the bill, they must either be stupid with their stubborn policies and lose heaps of money or then include a huge amount of buffer for warranty fixes in the prices of the cars. Say what, do the prices of the newest models loaded with complicated tech look ridiculous?

My first 8Y went through quite a number of software updates and also had a lot of electrical components replaced. Still they never got the car trouble-free. Would be interesting to know what's been done to if after I got rid of it, and what it has costed to all the different parties.
