Hello folks,

A strange issue started to happen with my boot this evening.
Usually, I can either close it by pressing the button on the boot itself or the middle button on my key fob, the boot goes down and the lock activates.

All of a sudden this evening, the boot still goes down but the lock doesn’t activate. There is now a constant light on my dash saying the boot is open. I have tried to see if there is anything stuck in it but didn’t see anything. I think the locking mechanism is gone because when I lock the car, the boot still seems to be liftable.

Is there a way of ’resetting’ it or should I get a new boot lock?

When you press the key boot button, does the boot lock make a noise as though it's operating, if not then I'd check it's getting power before condemning tbh.

Hi NHN,

No nothing. Whether I do it with the key or the boot release above the number plate, it just opens. No locking or unlocking is heard. I know what you’re talking about though and it’s not happening.

Get a meter on the lock wires & check for voltage.

I don’t have a multimeter will I be able to check anything using VCDS?

Vcds may show faults for the lock, scan see what comes up, ideally buy a £10 meter from Screwfix.

Thanks,

Yea I’ll give it a scan in the morning and pop off to screwfix and get a MM. Where am I checking for voltage? At the actual motor, under the little removable plastic?

Yeah usually there's a constant supply & probably a trigger wire, without me logging into Elsa I didn't say right now, but should see 12v somewhere on the connector, I can't recall if it's a magnetic, suction or mechanical latch down type, but any of them will require a feed to latch anyway, check fuses also.

Ok so an update. I managed to get VCDS on the and checked the trunk electronics. Everything was reporting as ok. The motors were showing as working and would show the correct voltage. The lock however was always showing as opened. I tried to see if there was any sort of way to manually test the lock within VCDS but didn't find anything. The only change I made was to enable the boot to be closed via the button in the drivers door. After I turned the ignition of and on I heard a clunk from the boot. I opened the boot from the inside and closed it again to make sure the adaption I did was accepted.

Then I went to the back and did the same using the buttons on the boot itself. It seemed to lock now.

So if anyone asks what I did to fix it, apart from the adaptation, I have no idea what fixed the issue. I am just glad I didn't order a boot lock.

Thanks NHN for the replies.
