Hi all just wanted to know whether a ko3 hybrid turbo will make a nice difference to my stage 2+ ko3 setup and if there would be anything else I would need to do to run it or if I’m wasting time and should go for a ko4? Any thoughts welcome just not sure what to do as I have found a ko3 hybrid on eBay someone is selling.
Cheers

been down the same route myself and never did in the end.
Its a great upgrade if you can , 1) find a tuner that will do a custom map on a dyno, as off the shelf maps for hybrids are just not out there as it depends on a lot of variables.
2) it can work out very costly, but worth it if its done right with injectors, etc etc

what kit have you found as some are just not worth the hassle?

there is a company in the states that i was going to use that do mapping for hybrid son the EA113 engine but its a bit involved and also works out a tad costly.

Don't touch any second-hand hybrid kit unless the condition can be proven beyond question.

Also, only worth doing if you've done "ALL" the supporting upgrades needed otherwise just wasting your money.

My car is stage 2+ revo tuned already with all the supporting mods for that, take it I would need more to help, the turbo has never been used and has been done by a reputable company

That is what I have found just thought as I’m mapped for the stage 2+ and have a few extra goodies putting this on would help

I know that hybrid much better than you would think:whistle2::whistle2:
look back at one of my posts on the old bus project.

You will need a specific remap to get the best out of that, which wont be cheap, there are no off the shelf options for it so it will be a dyno job.

So if I bolted that on the car would run horrible I take it even with the stage 2+ revo map I’m running now, does it look a good turbo tho as I was thinking of getting this then could get my tuner to get it mapped on his dyno at some point, also do I wait to try and get a ko4 but then I suppose I would need to get injectors and alsorts with a ko4

dont even think about fitting it chap, you need to check out remap option first before fitting it.
Boost , fuelling etc will all be wrong, it will just kill the engine.

Why is nothing ever straight forward ha ha, I would love some more power out of the car but seems I’ve hit a stage where I need to spend mega money to get anything extra out of it

I’m toying with the idea of keeping it now and trying to get more power out the old girl as I did want to save for a RS4 but a nicer family car has become more important at the moment so spent out on a q3 sline, so I thought for the little money I will get for the b7 I may aswell keep it and carry on playing with it

to get that all running spot on you'd be looking at £600 min to get it mapped and dyno'd , add on the cost of the hybrid and you will need some other bits your in the £1k and beyond area and that a conservative figure , probably more when all done, and provided yopu have an uprated clutch too.
maybe worth just sticking at stage 2+

I'd be working on £1200-£1500 if your clutch is upto spec.

Yeah it’s only a toy really so it maybe a case of slowly collecting parts then get it done to spread the cost, never seems as bad then ha ha. Do you think I’d be happy with the hybrid turbo or a ko4 tickle my taste buds better?
That hybrid of yours he says is good for about 330bhp and a ko4 is only about 20 BHP more

But that difference at those figures is bigger than you think, also a k04 will have more tuners vs the hybrid setup... but if you really want more out of the turbo think gt3071rr
Those will see you hitting 450~650bgp but you'll need some serious upgrades to run them. Your looking at 4 to 6k just at parts that can deal with that setup. Budget another 1.5k for a custom map.

Yeah those numbers are mad and the cars just not worth pouring that sort of money into £2500 is really the most I’d want to put into it at the moment so I might go for the hybrid route as I take it that would be the turbo, new clutch, injectors and the tune

The hybrid turbos are harder to map , and that’s echoed when I was getting quotes etc to do it.
Not helped by the fact many tuners are not doing the older platforms now which inc the EA113.
Youd have more success if you went K04 route or a longitudinal k04 based kit or something else more specific.

Ultimately it comes down to cost and what you hope to gain, versus drivability and running cost.
If you are not careful you will loose that drivability you have now, ok more power but it’s not allways about bigger numbers.

True I don’t use the car a lot only do 2000 to 3000 miles per year really and that will be less now with the new q3, I will send retroresus who do all my car bits a message as I believe they deal with APR and ecotech and see what they say about it
