Hi all can anyone identify these rear carriers. I bought them off ebay listed as coming off an audi tt 8j fwd rear 282mm solid discs. I've fitted them to my a3 8p and the caliper fits perfect but the carrier has a 9mm gap between the hub and carrier, I was under the impression that everything on this platform is a direct bolt on unless its quattro but the listing said front wheel drive. Thanks

yeah something def not right there

you’re right that a lot of VAG stuff is “bolt on”, but not all carriers are the same even if discs are 282mm
those 8J TT / A3 8P calipers can be shared, but carriers vary depending on hub/upright and brake code

that 9mm gap basically means you’ve got the wrong offset bracket. happens a lot when sellers mix TT/A3/Leon/Golf parts

most likely: they’re from a different brake setup (PR code mismatch) or possibly TT with slightly different hub spacing (even if FWD)
honestly mate, if it doesn’t sit flush on the hub its the wrong carrier full stop. don’t try shim it or anything
id return them and match by part number not just “282mm TT”

They aren't actually the ones I bought i just found a picture of the same set, I bought mine last year and had them shot blasted, painted and rebuilt so I cant return them now. Its a shame because I like those carriers it makes the brakes look bigger. I tried searching on Google and it says the tt 8j also has 282mm solid discs on some quattro models but I dont know, its really hard to find those carriers online and according to google they are also for the passat 3c. Would you really not recommend shimming them then? Not even with a solid adapter and longer bolts?. Thanks for the info.

yeah i still wouldnt do it personally mate
a tiny spacer maybe people get away with, but 9mm on a brake carrier is quite a lot. you’re changing the caliper alignment and putting extra leverage on the bolts/hub face
