Some of you may have seen the extensive post "How to modify & improve the gearshift for a MQ250 gearbox on a MK7 Golf" on the MK7 forum. Link below

I have followed the guide and ordered the 8J0 711 046 D lever as well as the TOPRAN 111 333 (replacement for 1J0 711 202P, which has been split up to 1J0 711 203L and some other parts, dropped in 2021).
Furthermore I had purchased the "superslider" from aliexpress (garbage) and the gear stick shaft bushings (although there's very little play on mine, even at 262k km and 11 years later!).

Forward to the installation and the issue lies with the side to side relay. The bowden cable catch has pretty much the same size as the MQ250 one, except it needs to be drilled out to fit the thicker cable. Not a big deal. What however does happen is that the shifter sitck will not sit centered, it's pushed ever so slightly to the right. I don't want to modify my cables, so I proceeded with the installation to see how it'll turn out.

Now the issue. Since the bowden cable catch sits slightly closer to the pivot point (hence the poor shifter alignment), it seems to impact the ability to select gears. When I put it in the 1st gear, it turns on my rearview camera, so it seems to select the reverse gear. When I push down the shifter to put it in reverse, it pops out. So this really doesn't work well, or am I missing something?
A metal relay would be nice to have, but I am not very keen on dropping 45 euro for the one from Bevinsee which is adjustable (who knows if the metal slider has good tolerances).

The 8J0 lever has the pin ever so slightly closer to the pivot point. Can you feel the difference? Not really. The shift feels slightly notchier and sporty (still nice), but the throw doesn't feel shorter. I am however happy with it.

Unfortunately, for anyone who really wants a shorter throw, but does not want it to be super notchy, you'll have to manually drill the hole.
Neuspeed used to have this for sale (66.10.95)

As you can see, it's weighted and the shift is shorter. Only Bevinsee has an MQ250 compatible one without counterweight.

Then the aliexpress super slider, it doesn't slide, the fitment is too tight. Could probably sand down the slider if you wish, but the ori plastic isn't bad imo. All the little tolerances don't add a significant play in the shifter.
