Good evening,

I've owned my S Line Special Edition (BUL) since 2014 at 50k got the Timing belt, water pump and all the auxillary belts replaced.
I only drive 3K a year or so and the mileage currently is at 83K.
My usual mechanic sold his garage has become an AA man so I'm kind of lost now!
I was wondering anyone know any reliable, trustworthy and reasonable mechanics in the Romford area?
Thanks

I strongly urge you to have a go yourself on these older cars. This is what I've started to do again after many years, after my trusted mechanic has now retired. They are really simple in the end to at least service and change discs/brakes etc. The engines are even designed to be oil changed with a vacuum pump, that's how Audi do it, and then it's a 15 minute job, oil and filter - I wouldn't trust any mechanic to do that as diligently and as well as I do. OBDEleven dongle will cover most of what VCDS can do for the home mechanic too - I've fixed most all electrical stuff myself with mine. For more complex work that require special heavy tools, it's best to look for a VAG specialist familiar with these cars. I don't have a garage or storage for lots of tools but it has been easy enough and saved me a ton of money too.:thumbs up:

HI mate,

I do all the servicing myself and have done so for a number of years. It's just the timing belt, water etc I'm not too sure about hence asked.

Hear you bud. That is one job I don't intend to do myself; simply because last time the idler shaft stripped and it had to be helicoiled - quite common on all these engines, over several belt changes; the belt rarely snaps itself, but the idler comes away and has the same catastrophic effect. I don't fancy stripping it all down to find it needs re-doing, at home; common with helicoils too. Needs locktiting too and on the diesels like mine at least VCDS fine timing. When I looked briefly there were quite a lot of VAG specialists near you, some with very good reviews too.:thumbs up:
