I've got a 65 plate S3 and keep having issues with the heater matrix blocking up.
First happened a couple years ago and I was told the silica bead bag in the coolant had burst and blocked it so had to replace it.
11 months later it blocked again with some kind of sludge. I was assured it was a different issue to the beads, just had the same result. New matrix.
Another year and the heat is failing again. It went in and they replaced the coolant shut off valve (error codes indicated it was failing). Didn't help and I was told the matrix is getting blocked again.
This time I was told the whole system is coated on the inside with some weird sludge stuff (photos below) and as its comes off the inside of the pipes it gets to the matrix and slowly blocks it.
All they can suggest is to keep periodically going in to get it flushed out (which I'm not being charged for). I've haven't gone for a 4th matrix yet...
Any ideas what it is, and how to deal with it?
