Audi has confirmed it’s bringing back a familiar name - but with a modern twist. Meet the A2 e-tron, a brand-new entry-level electric model family set to debut in autumn 2026.
Built in Ingolstadt, the A2 e-tron will sit at the more accessible end of Audi’s EV range, aimed at opening the door to premium electric ownership for a wider audience.
A Small Car with a Big Job
Audi says the A2 e-tron is all about delivering usable, everyday electric mobility — particularly for urban drivers. Think compact dimensions, strong efficiency, and a focus on real-world practicality rather than headline gimmicks.Audi CEO Gernot Döllner summed it up simply:
“Customers want electric cars that work in everyday life. The A2 e-tron is designed to deliver exactly that — efficient, compact and confident. It makes joining the Audi EV world easier than ever.”
A Nod to the Original A2
For those who remember it, the name isn’t random. The original Audi A2 was ahead of its time — lightweight, efficient, and built with urban living in mind. It never quite hit mainstream success, but it’s since become something of a cult classic.
This new A2 e-tron aims to pick up that same brief — just updated for the electric era. If you've been here a while you'll know ASN founder Adminstrators has a HUGE soft spot for the A2 having owned MANY.
Built in Germany, Backing the Future
Production will take place at Audi’s Ingolstadt plant, reinforcing the brand’s push to electrify its European manufacturing base. Audi is positioning the A2 e-tron as a key part of both its future product strategy and its commitment to keeping EV production rooted in Germany.
Part of a Bigger Picture
The A2 e-tron isn’t launching in isolation. Audi has been on a serious product push, rolling out over 20 new models across 2024 and 2025, giving it one of the youngest line-ups in the premium market.
Looking ahead, the strategy is clear:
- Q9 at the top end
- A2 e-tron at the entry point
Two ends of the spectrum, both designed to strengthen Audi’s position as it transitions further into electric mobility.
