On a low mileage 2025 Audi A3 Sportback 1.5 30 TFSI, with a manual gearbox, when slowing down and shifting down to first gear the vehicle occasionally stalls. What is this likely to be due to and what is the solution?

Is it stalling or could it be the stop/start activating? Try switching it off and see if the issue goes away.

Had already tried switching off the stop/start but it did not make a difference.

Normal behaviour, it’s just shutting down the engine before coming to a standstill. The start/stop button doesn’t really do anything in this generation, the car overrides it and does what it wants.

The problem is that it intermittently stalls as you change down to first gear, as you slow down as you approach junctions or in slow moving traffic, in these cases you are not necessarily wanting to come to a standstill. Sometimes the engine will automatically start again and but sometimes you will manually have to restart the engine.

Normal for s-tronic cars with the mhev system but not the manual afaik.

Given it's a relatively new car I can only suggest that you speak with wherever you purchased the car. If it turns out to be a fault you should be able to have it rectified under the manufacturer warranty

So did I get it right - you have the 1st gear in and lift the clutch, but the car doesn't start by that? I know start stop is very eager to cut the engine when you're slowing down close to standstill but it should fire up instantly when you lift the clutch.

With the S-tronic you can use the S mode to prevent the engine from shutting down at all, it's bad if there's no way to really override the start stop with a manual gearbox.

I don't actually know what's the 8Y manual gearbox functionality should be like, just participating in the conversation... The only place I've ever seen the 8Y with a stick is the UK configurator. Had a manual 8P back in the days, time before start-stop came to be. That gearbox was better than many automatic trannies back then!

Apologies I completely missed the fact your car is a manual transmission. I would book it into Audi and let them take a look under warranty
