I hope it has better software

Are those real pics or "almost there" renders? Front looks more like the current A6 grille and the exhaust pipes look oversized and oddly close to each other. Wouldn't be surprised if it ended up like this though. Not exactly bad but I think less successful than the basic A/S5. Got to see the official release pics before judging.

Ok, so the leaks were real ones. Nice to not have to wait that longer to see the official pics. Of course it looks better in proper photos and more angles but I think I need a moment to let it grow on me. Some of it looks good, some not so much. What I dare to say as my final opinion is that the execution of the exhaust tips looks way better on S5. Funny enough though how tame the S model looks right after watching the RS photos.

The press photos of the Avant show a kind of crossed blades across the air intakes on the sides of the grille. The car on the video doesn't have them, and the Sedan in photos neither. Are they an option for both cars or will the Avant have them anyway and that's just a pre-production car on the video? I prefer the cleaner look without them.

Edit: Thanks Thomas from Autogefühl - apparently they are standard, some optics package strips them off.

Since the grille is now actually this tall, looks like the grille on the upcoming RS6 will have to fold under the car. :tearsofjoy:

Any idea what that is above the middle of the steering wheel? Our cars don't have that.

Looks ace but at 600kg heavier surely it won't be bought by existing owners. Another car intended for business owners imho #TaxReasons

You're spot on. I was beginning to consider changing to an RS5, but the more I learn the less it appeals. For a start the weight is just too much, and the cost has gone beyond reality. I think I'll stick with my current, relatively light, nimble RS4.

#TaxReasons, yes. In many countries, like us, it will be way cheaper as a PHEV than pure ICE, because of the CO2 based taxes. Even though the car is more complicated and thus more expensive, the lesser tax will bring the price down like € 50k. Well, our Audi website tells the estimated price will be starting from € 125k so yes, it's expensive, but for comparison the BMW M3 is somewhere around 170 k€ and Audi RS3 is easy to configure over 100 k€. Suddenly the weight sounds like much less of an issue... Also the Porsche Panamera is quite popular as PHEV and it's not often criticised for what its weight does its drivability, unless compared directly to its ICE siblings.

The fact an RS3 can cost close to €100k doesn’t make the RS5 better value in absolute terms. It just shows how silly prices have become across a variety of models, which I expect was the point NWHighlander was making

Of course not. Also it's obvious that the PHEV whale isn't exactly what Audi RS team would be aiming for if they had any choice. But there's no denying you can easily find reasons to suddenly like the heavy PHEV thing when you see the price tag. "The cost has gone beyond reality" was the line I was picking up for my previous post and I wanted to point out how differently you can define "beyond reality". Just expensive is one thing, but this tax nonsense completely distorts what you're getting for your money. And it makes a ridiculous difference where you live.
