A couple of days ago I decided to charge my battery as the car has been sitting in the garage for getting on for a month. I connected my CTec smart charger and left it charging overnight but the following morning I found that the battery had not charged and the charger was showing an error light. When I opened the driver's door, the dashboard failed to light up as the battery was completely dead. It was then that I noticed that I'd left my dashcam plugged into the 12V socket after I'd left the car unlocked in the garage.
I connected another battery to mine with jump leads for 15 minutes and was then able to re connect the charger which started to charge in recondition mode. Unfortunately the battery would not complete the charging cycle so I had no alternative but to buy a new one.
I bought a Varta F19 85Ah from Tayna batteries for £85 plus delivery which I thought was very reasonable. Fitting it was a bit of a nightmare though and due to the very tight below the windscreen location I had to call on the help of a mechanic friend to lift the old battery out and fit the new one for me as I'm sure that I'd have ruptured myself if I'd persisted.
My next priority is to find an idiot-proof way of remembering to unplug the dashcam when I park the car. It's easy to forget that the Audi 12v socket, unlike that on my wife's Honda Jazz remains live when the ignition is turned off.
