Seems like you still need to plug in your phone to the adapter?Get yourself one of these and you'll be set: https://amzn.eu/d/e6pM1HM
I have the first model they made and it works well. You can also get any cheaper alternatives but I haven't used the cheaper ones so unsure on reliability. I went with the AAWireless brand due to the extra settings you get like being able to make it turn off after x seconds so it doesn't keep your phone connected when leaving the car.
Thanks for the confirmationAndroid Auto will only work on the 8V using a good quality usb cable. Wireless will not work on 8V
Nope, didn't know phones could have those, just never thought of it.Are you using a VPN or Ad blocker on your phone?

My brother in law showed me this one by Ottocast, but I thought I'd ask on the forum to see if it was really the case that 8V doesn't support wireless CarPlay

Yes, when I leave my VPN/Ad blocker running AA wont connect wirelessly to MMi.Nope, didn't know phones could have those, just never thought of it.
I wrote earlier that I gave the ottocast Mini Pico a try in case you missed that. It kept dropping and customer service is really annoying. What would make the AliExpress adapters work since they're even cheaper. Do you have one and have tried it yourself? If data transfer isn't bottlenecking the adapter because of the smaller screen res, why does my Ottocast keep dropping?MHS2 and MHI2 systems do not support wireless android auto or wireless carplay.
Your best option is a €10 wireless adapter you can get from AliExpress (they're all good as the screen res is 800x480, so the data transfer isn't bottlenecking the adapter).
Other more expensive options exist (e.g. Aa wireless, but it doesn't support wireless carplay like the AliExpress adapters do). Ottocast is also available for relatively cheap, around €30-40.
Thanks for this. Isn't the connection via Bluetooth though? As far as I'm aware the AA adapter dongle that I have is supposed to be a plug and play solution via Bluetooth, so there has been no mention that the car needs to provide WiFi.I can thoroughly recommend an AAWireless dongle for this too. I had a 2019 8V RS3 and it worked a treat, you just leave the dongle plugged into the USB socket and it'll connect to your phone wirelessly on startup to display Android Auto on the screen. Hope that helps
I think they probably do the same thing, just from different brands. The car doesn't need wifi for AAwireless to workThanks for this. Isn't the connection via Bluetooth though? For clarity, this is the dongle that I have: https://www.ottocast.com/en-se/products/ottocast-mini-pico-wireless-carplay-android-auto-adapter
