Apologies for the essay - My ongoing 2013 8v with poorly fitted 2017 LED matrix headlight conversion saga took another strange turn this week. To recap a boring story, previous owner had a light front end crash and poorly fitted a 2017 front end with LED matrix type headlights which werent wired in /coded properly when I bought the car, nothng worked on them except DRLs and dipped beam. I since finished the conversion with an upgraded AFS module some re pinning to the BCM and got full functionality of headlights and indicators, but have always had a parastic draw since they were rewired. I was adivised at the time to run a cable from the AFS module into the fuse box on constant power (Terminal 30). I piggy backed this connection to the drivers door fuse just for ease of getting the connection as I was pushed for time and space to do the work. Anyway I did some digging (long chat with Ai so not sure how good this info is) and apparently , the AFS module should should have been connected to Terminal 15 /ignition switched power and this was probably causing the BCM or whatever to never go into deep sleep mode, possibly causing the car battery to go flat every few days esp if car not used. Possibly compounded by piggy backing off the drivers door electrics which may have caused more chatter again stopping car going into deep sleep.

Anyway I just tried putting the AFS module onto ignition switched power and started getting problems whee there were none before, with DRLS coming on constantly when no key in car and going off when driving, plus I am now getting the Adaptive headlight fualt error message on the cars dash where it hasnt been there last 12 months since I got the headlights working properly. So I ran VCDS and theres an error code for front pass side headlight levelling sensor. I bought a cheap one on Amazon and when I went to fit it, not only was there no sign of the old one (the complete sensor/assembly was not fitted) but worse, the cable running to it has dissappeared, its not there to plug a new sensor into.

My guess is, bearing in mind what a bodge the facelift conversion was is that when they fitted the facelift they just removed it because it was broken and didnt bother replacing it and probably cut the sensor cable and tucked it into the void behind the inner wing. There is a rubber grommet that I think the brake sensor cable comes out of the car and into the inner wing area, that kind of has 4 square spaces/holes for extra cables, so I think the HLL sensor cable originally came out of there too - anyone know if that is correct - or if not where its likely to be?
Also if it is now behind the inner wing, where does it go - is it a void, does it go to the fuse box, anyone got any ideas how to access it or tips to find this headlight levelling sensor cable please?

I am not 100% sure how the headlights have been working with no fault codes for last few months up til now without the Adaptive system working but its possible that being hardwired to constant power bypassed the AFS somehow and apprently if the Audi system doesnt detect AFS it defaults to lowered beams. Since I ran it for a bit connected to terminal 15 and got the fault, now I've put the AFS back onto Termnal 30, the AFS fault is now on the dash all the time.

In theory if I can get a front headlight sensor attached, clear that fault code, keep the AFS on Terminal 15, this should give me back full headlight functionality, DRLS working properly again and no parastitic draw, which would be great so if anyone has any info , it would be much appreciated..

p.s. one more thing I thin the 2013 original headlights should have been xenons so there should have been a HLL sensor there in the first place but I havent actually checked if they were..
