Just fitted the ASR, well, the Alarm man did being as he was fitting my Immobilisor/tracker when the UPS van pulled up outside, all went in OK ish but there is a connection under the steering column on I suspect the steering wheel controller and the unit itself fits in the LH footwell.
The way he/we fitted it the twisted pair (can bus) lead was too short so needed an extension, no big deal and probably easier to fit with just a wire to pass from right to left instead of trying to get a pair of 40mm x 10mm male and female plugs through under the dash. (I have given ASR feedback and suggestions as they have probably never fitted one to a RH drive car)

All works fine, lovely to see the SS switch illuminate and a little graphic with Lane Assist Off appear, nice thing about the Lane assist is 'IF' I ever decided to use it I can switch it on with the stalk and the next ignition 'ON' it will revert ot off as it has to be set in the MMI for the memory to work, exhaust sounds nice as well.....Happy Days
:)

I had a nice reply from Daniel at ASR saying mine had slipped through the production line 'incorrectly' and RHD units should have exactly what I suggested as in a longer can bus pair and a small connection plug :)

Hi @Mike.46, what do you think about the ASR, does it make a noticeable change?

I am seriously considering one for my pre-FL. From all the posts I've read and videos I've watched, it seems to make a good deal of difference, but would be interested to hear your experience so far.

I had one on my pre-FL and loved it. It's never going to make it sounds like a pre-OPF car but it does allow noticeably more sound and means that you can choose to have the valves open at slow speed and in more relaxed drive modes, which I really liked. A few times I got some good burbles and pops just tootling about. It's also extremely easy to fit do for me it would be a no-brainer if I got another RS3. :)

It's exactly what Daggerit has said, not a huge difference but enough that you can hear it, you can have the valves open all the time (your's will open in Sport mode but close the moment the car moves) or leave the valves to work as OEM but with the ASR they will always open in any sport mode, my pre facelift ASR is for sale on ebay (Johnmv55) and i'm open to offers :)

It's around a 30 minute fit inc leaving the car to 'go to sleep'

Funnily enough, I clocked that on eBay the other day and it's currently on my watchlist, so will probably drop you a note about it!

Does this controller shut the flaps when necessary ? Thought i read somewhere that under certain conditions it was detrimental if not and some controllers didn’t. Or did I get that wrong way around ?

In my head it would be worse if they didn’t open fully at higher rpm and loads to be honest. Which the ASR still fully opens when controlled by the car rather than overriding and being fully open.

For anyone going to order the ASR unit I would just add a note for them to check the connection lead is for a RH drive car (If you have a RH drive car!) Daniel has just sent me the correct lead for my unit now, If I ever have the glove box out (or the panel under the steering wheel out) for anything else I will change the ASR wiring loom

I don’t suppose anybody on his thread is based in the Oxfordshire area.

I have been designing and manufacturing Valve Controller is for Volkswagen Audi and Porsche for a number of years now and I’m looking to give someone a Valve Controller to test for me. If you would be interested, please reach out to me. I have put a link to my website below so you can see my current products and it a bit about my brand.
