Hello,

I thought i would share this issue just in case anyone comes across this same thing. I went to a customers vehicle who had the Fuel Tank Flap Faulty message on the dash. The customers have automatically assumed that the fuel tank flap motor was at fault so have replaced the whole unit with door and motor but still had the same issue. At the same time after a while all manner of other faults were coming on the dash.

When i went to check and read the fault codes everything was leading back to the senor circuitry and the fuel pump. Loaded up ODIS for some GFF and based on the fault codes it stated to check the wires/connectors at the fuel tank. Nothing could have prepared me for what was lurking in the fuel tank area. the below video shows the extent of the damage.

Something (i'm presuming rats) had burrowed themselves in the fuel tank area and made themselves a nice little home. Whilst at home they proceeded to eat the wiring and the connectors that were there.

New wiring and new connectors ordered from the dealer and after some wiring and splicing all was connected back up and the vehicle was back to normal with no more tank flap fault and no other faults!

These were the fault codes stored.

Hope this helps and hope the video is clear as to what to do and where to find the relevant areas.

Interesting and very unlucky.

I wonder if the car was parked up somewhere unusual and not used much?

I had a work colleague who had a fairly old Toyota Yaris, didn't use much, and when cleainng found a lot of 'nuts' around in the engine bay. Apparently a squirrel or similar has been safe storing them there.

I was told that the car was indeed left in a car park for a period of time.
