Evening all.

I have the opportunity to buy either an RSQ3 or SQ5.

RSQ3 has done 60k Km and is a 2021

SQ5 has done 30k Km and is a 2023.

Owned several Audis and still own a new A5, but never anything from the Q series.

Would you pick over the other? I am a bit split.

My main concern is which is the most reliable engine?

Anything I should look out for?

Thanks.

if both are factory and you won't tune them, than both are reliable with the sq5 having a little more common problems regarding oil leaks from both the supercharger and engine. But if you are going for big power upgrades than the rsq3 engine is the one you'll want to go for... it has less common problems. Unlike the sq5 engine having problems with big power upgrades and metal shavings can clog up a little oil mesh filter that can starve the engine from oil. But if addressed ( audi does have an upgraded version for it) it shouldn't be a problem but to get to replace it you'll have to remove the supercharger, and everything that is in the way to replace it.

Long story short, the RSQ3 has the more reliable engine for tuning... but if left standard, the sq5 is the better one... both will need to be serviced in time to stay reliable especially when driven hard. also take note: he RSQ3 engine has more aftermarket support tuning wise which equates to more affordable parts... so if power mods is what you are planning to do, go for the RSQ3.

Thank you. Its going to be a daily driver so no intention of modding it.

I am leaning towards the RSQ3 as should it need it the engine should be easier to work on, have read about the leaks on the 3.0. I work overseas and buying a car here is a bit different to the UK.

I thought the engine had turbo's.

Wasn't it the previous generation that hat the supercharger?

you are right the 2023 model is a turbo-ed engine... my bad. I went of the older model in my reply... but still some of the common oil leaks are still relevant including being more epensive to tune than the RSQ3 model.

I would imagine it depends on the type of driving you do and whether you need to carry people / things or tow.

RS3 - quicker by some way, sounds great, handles better, but way worse fuel consumption and less space. Probably more popular with car thieves.
SQ5 (will be diesel if 2023) - better fuel consumption, more space and an SUV, so worse handling, possibly better cabin.

No mention of price so assume they are similar.

Both are similar price. The SQ5 is 100% not a diesel. it is petrol.

Car theft is not an issue where I am. Crime is very low as the penalties are high.

That's interesting as UK supplied SQ5's only returned to petrol power mid to late 2024 with the new model.
Your location says 'Staffordshire' but maybe you aren't based in the UK?

Yes, I work overseas. The Audi market out here is quite different, trim levels and option differ (Cooled cup holders!). The locals are tyring to put me off buying one, apparently German cars don't like the summers, but the chance to own either it too appealing.

The logical choice would be to buy a Toyota or something else Japanese, but I can't do it. Had Audis for the last 25 years

So finally took delivery of my new to me 2021 RSQ3. Love it. Got to be careful as it’s so much fun, it’s a license looser for sure.

Oh no they put the steering wheel on the wrong side, ...but it still looks rather smart .
