Hi guys,
Need your advice please (sorry about the long post). I currently have an A3 S Line 1.5 TFSI 2018 model which has only done about 28K miles. I bought it when it was just under 2 years old with 14K miles. As you can tell we only do about 3K miles on average (we are in West London). I love this car (love both exterior and interior) and it still drives very well (only had to service the car and haven't had any problems).
Since the A3 is close to 8 years old now and having a bigger car would be handy (missus is pregnant), we are thinking of getting a Q3. I have been looking at them for a while on Auto Trader and have also driven a few at a few Audi dealers. We are looking for something under 3 years old and up to 20K miles.
Things we like and don't like:
I still prefer the interior of the A3 to Q3s (2019 -2025) but it's not a big deal (however I hate exterior and interior of new Q3s). I think I prefer the B&O sound system in my A3 to the Sonos sound system in Q3s but again it's not a huge deal.
Ideally we like the black model as it looks a bit nicer than S line model with black styling and nice 20 inch wheels. We also want the standard/avant model and not the Sportback in either Navarra blue or Daytona grey with Technology pack (comfort and sound pack).
I wouldn't mind getting a quick car (was one stage looking at S3s) so 45TFSI with the Golf GTI engine does appeal to me.
We looked at 35TFSI, 40TFSI and 45TFSI models. The 35FTSI seems a bit sluggish (bit slower than our current A3 with the same engine but I guess the Q3 is heavier). I didn't think it was too bad but missus thought it was slow.
We drove a 40 TFSI and it seemed quicker but we thought we might as well get the 45 TFSI if we are going to get the 2L quattro car.
The 45 TFSI we drove seemed quite a bit quicker and smoother however it wasn't the right car (about 5 years old with 30K miles). The Q3 45 TFSIs seem quite rare and even more difficult to find black edition ones.
Currently we are trying to decide whether to keep the A3 for a couple more years, buy Q3 a 35TFSI black model or a 45TFSI S line model (haven't been able to find a black edition one). I have a slight preference for the 45TFSI as it will be more fun and maybe safer as well with Quattro though it will be less fuel efficient which isn't a big deal as we don't do that many miles.
Do you guys have any advice? Will the Q3 have more space in the back for a baby seat compared to an A3? Do you recommend getting the 45 TFSI?
The 45 TFSI I found only has standard Q3 wheels (83A601025M) but I am not a fan of them. If I buy this car, I will probably replace with the optional V spoke wheels (83A601025L) which I can buy from eBay. They are the same size as the standard wheels. Is the model of the alloy wheels part of the vehicle original configuration? If I change the wheels, do I have to notify insurance? (even though they are same size). If I sell the car in a few years time will it be an issue selling without the original wheels (I will probably sell the original wheels on eBay or something).
